I went there on Tuesday Afternoon February 20 2024 after booking my online reservation which costs $5 + a fee which makes The price $6.15 for one person & gets you a one hour time slot.It was hot so bring sunscreen & water the trailer gets progressively twisty narrow & vertical leading up to The Top.I recommend that you might want to go earlier as some of the people doing this walk weren't exactly quick or in this best shape.I could've made it up to the Summit & back in about 40 minutes if there wasn't slow people that wouldn't move aside. On a scale I think this is a fair challenge but I think it isn't as tough as going up The Law in North Berwick in Scotland Diamond Head & The Law are both of a similar height Diamond Head is just a bit over a Hundred + feet higher but there's no steps to lead you to the Apex at The North Berwick Law & Hill Of The Cross in Holguin Southern Cuba now those massive steps now those make that a workout & then some on a hot day there.

An awesome and unique challenge! Doable with lots of breaks going up. Mind over matter and steady footing on the way down.

The view is stunning at the end of the trail, no doubt very rewarding for those who can make it up there, and back down. It’s tougher than the first 2 miles of the Napali Coast trail on Kauai. It’s the combination of mud and slippery that makes this trail a no joke for those who want to do it

    1. Get a hiking stick or pick up one along the way. You will need it for the last stretch. Steep steps on mud and wet tree roots. Those roots looks nice and nice holding place for your feet - deceiving. The tree roots are exponentially slippery than mud when wet.

    2. Coming up is tiring. Getting down is knee jerking.

    3. Start early. View is better. Trail less crowded

    4. Wear long sleeves, long pants. Or be the feast to the tropical bugs

    5. Bring water, hat, jacket for the top

Overall, the trail is not dangerous just very wet muddy and slippery.

It does have one of the best views on any Hawaii island

We debated back and forth on if we wanted to do this hike; so glad we decided to go! Yes, even with sunny Waikiki, this rain forest will be misty and showery. We went prepared: umbrellas, dark colored good walking shoes (do not wear anything white or nice). Your shoes will get dirty. Even with rocks on the trail, our shoes got a little bit dirty. Nothing a quick clean up didn't fix. No big deal.

The trail is so well maintained. It is a trail to waterfalls, be realistic people!! Some areas will be steep and steps required. But as far as waterfalls trails go, we thought this one was EASY!

It just amazes us how Jurassic Park this "feels". Just lovely. We spent about 2 hours or so enjoying this area. At the end, we were rewarded by nice flowing 150 feet drop Manoa Falls. She sure is lovely.

They put "do not go beyond" signs at the end of the trail, but plenty of people scramble to the water's edge. We went earlier in the morning, when we finished, definitely more people.

There is a nice clean up area, bathrooms, snack bar, etc. Easy to get Uber rideshares to and from. Highly recommend the hike.

All Trails says it’s illegal, but there are so many people still doing it. We pulled into the parking area and found a spot. Crowded, but not full.

The trail is easy to follow from AllTrails. If you’re unsure which way to go, ask someone coming the other way.

We had rain and no rain coats, so we were chilly when we got to the falls and didn’t swim, but there is plenty of water to swim in. We didn’t stay long because it was later in the day, which put the sun partially on the falls.

I would recommend this hike, but not if you are alone. Make sure there are others already in the trail.

Booked an early time to start the hike as didn’t want to be hiking in the heat of the day. Well marked pathway and gravel path. Was fairly busy but not packed. Great views from the top. Didn’t particularly like going through the tunnel part but made it. Hike wasn’t as bad as what I thought it was going to be. Really enjoyed it.

This hike isn’t for the faint of heart! Lol it’s very challenging and sometimes dangerous but worth it in the end when you get to the waterfalls and the views. Definitely worth it. 👍🏼

We enjoyed this hike, it was a good moderate level hike. Very muddy and you end up walking through the water a few times to get to the falls at the end. It takes a good 75 minutes plus to make it to the falls with the mud, the walk up, and all the tree roots you had to navigate through. If it had just rained, I don't know if we would have done it or continued on. It was dry for a few days so we decided to go and it was still muddy, so we knew if it had rained there def could be some issues with deeper standing water and mud spots that would cover your entire shoe up your leg! All in all, good hike, def recommend it, and bring water! We did bring bug spray and used it, had no issues with bugs at all, not sure if it was the bug spray or not, but we had zero issues with bugs. Good luck and enjoy!
