If you do one thing outside Waikiki when in Oahu, try to visit Hanauma Bay. Don’t stress with trying to get tickets online. Get up super early and either drive there or take an Uber. As long as you are among first 300 people you will get in. We arrived at 630am, parked on the overlook across and waited for park to open which is 645am. We got tickets to enter at 730am, which was great as the bay gets more crowded later in the day. We saw so many different fish and some new coral growth and few sea urchins. It was absolutely amazing, although somewhat sad as most of corals have died from people stepping on them.
If you choose to buy tickets online and decide to drive beware that even if you have entry tickets the parking lot might be full and you might not be able to enter.

What a fabulous program for the Kieki! My so has gained a wealth of knowledge on how to take care of the planet and I can tell he feels very empowered from this wisdom! The staff are super great and the location is just magical. Memories to last a lifetime for sure!!!

We wanted a variety of experiences and take in a variety of locations throughout our 9 day trip to O'ahu. I'm sure glad Trip Advisor was there to help with the planning and research. The community of travelers has a depth and breadth of advice and reviews.
If you like natural settings and want to avoid the crowds, go to the North Shore. While there aren't many lodging opportunities, the beaches are more secluded and wave watching a premium.
