Well worth visiting the Palace, we did the audio tour. The whole experience took about an hour, we were lovely and cool in the Palace while listening to its history.

Excellent place to learn more about their culture and just how much of their heritage is missing. What I noticed the most is just much the early settlers of these lands resemble Native Indians, Indians and Africans. From their facial features, to heights, builds let alone the clothes and dance routines.

Now I know more about Captain Cooke and the Dole empire.

In the Pearl Harbor Museum complex, there is a submarine museum that is associated with the history of WWII. One of the artifacts that is featured is the USS Bowfin Submarine. First swimming on December 7 1942, one year after the attack, she was known as the “Pearl Harbor Avenger,” with nine successful patrols within three years before the War ended. Some of the locations she was patrolling were the South China Sea, the Sea of Japan, and the Celebes Sea. This was my first time being on a submarine; I cannot believe how tight and narrow the walkways were. I give these service men and women who are stationed inside these submarines some credit. They are in these tight places trying to defend this great nation under the water of the seas. When in Pearl Harbor, take a stroll to the USS Bowfin and see what these service men and women lived and worked.

We had been to Pearl Harbor before but we had not visited the Air Museum. We decided to see that and take the tower tour. We bought our tickets at the visitor center at Pearl Harbor then took the shuttle to the museum. We were extremely fortunate because Ford ( A docent) was giving a tour that we joined. He told us about every aircraft in the museum and stories relating to events that happened that day. Ford brought that day to life for us as we listened to him. I’m guessing maybe he was giving a hanger tour? I’m not sure but if I return I will inquire about his services. When you arrive we watched a 12 min video about Dec 7, 1941. The museum has two hangers to visit and some other aircraft out side to see up close. We really enjoyed our time here. If you are interested in history this is a must visit site.

My name is Ofcr, Dana Fatu I have been the Honolulu Police museum manager/storyteller since 2015. I want to thank TripAdvisor for being a fair review board for me and the museum. I hope HPD continues the great five star ratings that me and mentor Eddie Croom have earned for the HPD museum since 2015.

I will be retiring and leaving the museum April 1, 2024. Best wishes For the history of Honolulu Police Museum and its continuation of great bookkeeping, maintenance and visitors still have the “Awe” factor…

Since 2015, we were able to create a barcoding system for close to 10k unique pieces of HPD artifacts, documents, archives of our police history.

I was the only officer in hpd history to generate and be awarded a $51k dept of justice grant. through the grant I coded 11 Samsung devices and set up in 11 different languages and now QR Codes throughout museum for our non-speaking visitors from across the world. Hopefully, the rigorous cleaning daily refreshing of the museum, to keep museum new. I pray the next successor picks up where we left to continue this magical time capsules museum, using 21st century technology. Crossing our fingers the $41k Fallen Officer Display will be set up in March or April of 2024 since I fought for it for almost 2 years.

Just last year in 2023, close to 1,800 visitors walked through the museum doors,

So, God what’s next for this soon to be retired police officer?…Mahalo and Alooooooha Officer Legaee Fatu jr “Dana” signing off

I discovered the Mission Houses while walking to the Iolani Palace for a tour there, so these two are very close and you could do them in one day if you plan ahead. The tour guide was super knowledgeable and had answers to all of our questions about what we were seeing or what she was telling us. We were a small group of 5, which was a good size for maneuvering the smaller spaces and visiting the rooms.

This tour added another layer to the history and my understanding of Hawaii. I especially enjoyed learning how the written Hawaiian language came about.

A small (free of fee) museum almost hidden from sight but when you come in, you would find a new world: all sorts of corals and pearls not only from Hawaii but from around the globe. A visit there enriches the visitor who would be astound in front of the richness, especially of corals. Im memoriam of Mrs. Lu.
