On the day before Thanksgiving after visiting the Halona Beach Cove I drove here to buy a Hawaiian shirt, which is very touristy. I came here because of the Hawaii episode of Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservation". He pointed to a shirt that Montgomery Clift wore in the movie "From Here To Eternity". When that episode originally aired I hadn't read the novel or watched the movie.

When I came here I wasn't specifically looking for that shirt to buy. Entering the store I was intimidated by abundance of shirts from the racks and ceiling; there's so many shirts to choose from. Unlike in Kauai where at the last Hawaiian shirt store, which was Jacqueline on Kauai, I wasn't rushed by the manager of the store. I took my time looking at these shirts. The shirt displayed from the ceiling are the most expensive shirts in the store. One of those shirts was the Montgomery Clift shirt featured from the movie. That shirt costs over $2,000. In addition to the price I wasn't going to buy that shirt as it was a small size.

From the Hawaii episode of Bourdain stated, "As with true love you don't pick your shirt it picks you." One of the shirts I was planning to buy was a white shirt with pineapples. The white texture had a similar appearance to a barong tagalog, which is a tradition Filipino shirt that men wear to church. I was going to buy that shirt until the manager showed me a retro Montgomery Clift shirt from one of the racks. Bourdain was right. This shirt was meant for me. Since it was not from the ceiling I didn't have to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars. I didn't care if that shirt was used not new. I am not a big collector of Hawaiian shirts as I own only 6 Hawaiian shirts (ok that seems a lot of Hawaiian shirts). At that time I bought them they were new. I have to say the used shirt I bought at this store is my favorite Hawaiian shirt.

Due to the manager assisting me in buying the Hawaiian shirt I give this place a better rating than the store in Kauai. The best advice I would give is to not come here with the exact type of shirt that you are looking for. Since there are so many shirts go through the racks to find the shirt that picks you. If you're traveling to Honolulu and want a vintage Hawaiian shirt I recommend coming Bailey's Antiques and Aloha Shirts as they probably have shirts made from all the Hawaiian Islands.

it seems most antique stores in Oahu are quite small. This one is a bit larger but still not huge by any standards. But for the space they are given they have it very full. About to the point that there is so much on the floors, shelves, and tables that you can't see the forest for the trees! I looked around and found several items of interest and a few that we had already acquired elsewhere and found the prices here to be quite a bit more. I still think it would be a good stop, for antique hunters, as it did have about the best variety that we found.

As you'd expect from the name, Opal Fields has an amazing collection of fabulous, rare black opal jewelry in spectacular artisan-designed settings. I'm an opal connoisseur, and their selection is second to none in the United States. If that were all they offered, their new store in Waterfront Plaza (a/k/a "Restaurant Row") would still be a must-visit. But Opal Fields is so much more than just an opal store! Their collection of exquisite jewelry and loose stones ranges from the world's rarest and finest diamonds (they're the only authorized EightStar representatives in Hawaii, and one of only a few in the United States) to heart-stopping emeralds and rubies, magnificent natural pearls, lustrous jade in all shades, and so much more. (Think Harry Winston or Van Cleef and Arpels quality -- then add another ten points and subtract the snobby attitude!) Master GIA Gemologists Tom and June really know their profession, and they're very glad to share their knowledge and expertise. An appointment is suggested. This is not a high-volume shop like the ones at Ala Moana Center or the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center; expect to be receive individual attention in a relaxed, professional atmosphere. Highly recommended!

OMG!!!! This is the place to pick up Aloha shirts for everyone! I could not find anything on the Waikiki strip at all! Everything has become gentrified and upscaled. I just wanted a simple Aloha shirt that would make me feel like I went on vacation! Also, Hawaii is an island and as visitors we need to be part of the upcycling and recycling solution. After all, where do you think all the stuff goes when no one wants it anymore? I got books, Koa bowls, Hawaiian art, ribbon leis for my kids college graduations, and Aloha shirt for EVERYONE!
