- Lynette T1 contributionWe are local and like to play tourists occasionally and stroll through Waikiki. We enjoy walking around the Int’l Marketplace & checking out all the shops - dining @ Liliha Bakery - Shorefrye and for special occasions Herringbone, Moani & Eating House 1849
Today we had business @ the customer service counter and had the usual pleasant experience with Jon and Noah.
Both are always helpful and efficient.Written 19 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Several food trucks served lunch. $2 per person admission. - Usia2014Calgary, Canada1,970 contributionsWe walked along the beach areas of Waikiki daily while on holiday. During the day it’s very busy and there is lots of traffic on the main road next to the beach. There are plenty of stores across the street to go into for a cold drink, ice cream or souvenirs. Along the beach and park areas there are various statues to admire with flower leis hanging on their arms or their necks. People leave these before flying home. In the evenings it’s a great place to watch the sunsets and lights of the hotels. On Friday nights there is a fireworks display which lights up the sky over Waikiki.Written 23 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OZS_ATWBudapest, Hungary4,379 contributionsIt is like a mall just anywhere in the world because the majority of the stores and shops offer very expensive products.
The good thing is that there are some shops that sell only local artists creations.
Anyway, it is worth spending here an hour or so.Written 16 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We liked the Brazilian cheeses bread and acqi bowl, Mochi. If we had a fridge for later the pig and the lady food -Vietnamese from China town-would’ve been the go to. Gorgeous local
Flower vendors had long lines . 3 rows, an hour timeline is more than enough. While the selection was a bit limited at that time of day, I still managed to find some tasty options for lunch. The quality was good, and the convenience of being able to grab a quick meal on the go made it worth the visit. I’ll definitely be back, though I’d love to see a slightly wider variety available during the early hours.Written 12 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Maria OOakland, CA982 contributionsThis is a smaller more quaint market as opposed to the one at the community college (which is huge and has tourist buses that bus the visitors in). If you just want to pick up some nice local vegetables, greens, fruit without the fuss, this is a good place to come to. They also serve food and there is a very large area where you can sit, listen to the music and have a very relaxing Saturday morning. It is located in the Ward Shopping area right across the park at Ala Moana.Written 26 May 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gerald ROakland, CA783 contributionsOn the day before Thanksgiving after visiting the Halona Beach Cove I drove here to buy a Hawaiian shirt, which is very touristy. I came here because of the Hawaii episode of Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservation". He pointed to a shirt that Montgomery Clift wore in the movie "From Here To Eternity". When that episode originally aired I hadn't read the novel or watched the movie.
When I came here I wasn't specifically looking for that shirt to buy. Entering the store I was intimidated by abundance of shirts from the racks and ceiling; there's so many shirts to choose from. Unlike in Kauai where at the last Hawaiian shirt store, which was Jacqueline on Kauai, I wasn't rushed by the manager of the store. I took my time looking at these shirts. The shirt displayed from the ceiling are the most expensive shirts in the store. One of those shirts was the Montgomery Clift shirt featured from the movie. That shirt costs over $2,000. In addition to the price I wasn't going to buy that shirt as it was a small size.
From the Hawaii episode of Bourdain stated, "As with true love you don't pick your shirt it picks you." One of the shirts I was planning to buy was a white shirt with pineapples. The white texture had a similar appearance to a barong tagalog, which is a tradition Filipino shirt that men wear to church. I was going to buy that shirt until the manager showed me a retro Montgomery Clift shirt from one of the racks. Bourdain was right. This shirt was meant for me. Since it was not from the ceiling I didn't have to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars. I didn't care if that shirt was used not new. I am not a big collector of Hawaiian shirts as I own only 6 Hawaiian shirts (ok that seems a lot of Hawaiian shirts). At that time I bought them they were new. I have to say the used shirt I bought at this store is my favorite Hawaiian shirt.
Due to the manager assisting me in buying the Hawaiian shirt I give this place a better rating than the store in Kauai. The best advice I would give is to not come here with the exact type of shirt that you are looking for. Since there are so many shirts go through the racks to find the shirt that picks you. If you're traveling to Honolulu and want a vintage Hawaiian shirt I recommend coming Bailey's Antiques and Aloha Shirts as they probably have shirts made from all the Hawaiian Islands.Written 12 February 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The stalls are staffed by farmers who are happy to answer questions about the vegetables and discuss what's in season. Southeast Asian fruits and veg are a welcome find. I saw jackfruit, soursop, four-angle beans and other more widely available produce such as lemons, arugula, papayas, zucchini, cucumbers and long beans. Everything that I bought was of good quality. They also had lots of fresh coconuts for drinking, always a super drink to have on a hot day. For visitors, they also have nice roller ball pens crafted from koa wood and small items of jewellery.Written 22 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AllanJGJWellington, New Zealand4,427 contributionsDescribing this as a shopping centre is a little bit of marketing spin. It's actually five separate buildings of somewhat disparate quality in the same area. The Nordstrom Rack and TJ Maxx in one building are both great and there's an excellent Whole Foods Market a hundred yards or so up the road, but the other shopping precincts were either rather run down or of minimal interest given how much shopping there is to be done in Honolulu. One plus was that there is lots of parking.Written 11 September 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Runi58Chicago, IL22 contributionsThe Japanese Cultural Center was easy to find, there is parking in their lot for a slight fee or plenty of street parking.
FYI, it is located close to Wakiki hotels. They had 2 exhibits, one was free and had a movie which was about the intern ment of the Japanese during WW2, and the other was an exhibit about the ancestry and life of Japanese in Hawaii, there was a fee. This exhibit was very interesting and well done. What was especially nice was that the peaople at the center circulated in the area and answered questions and explained some of the exhibits.Written 16 December 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
