What travellers are saying
- World travelerCalifornia396 contributionsVery nicely signed and nice rim walk with great views . Unfortunately they closed early on Thanksgiving day and we got there too late to see the whole place . The visitors center has a great map location of many national parks and monuments . Helped me

The expanse of the landscape is amazing. I combined this with a visit to Sunset Crater NM. It was a terrific combo.Written 14 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Kevin R123 contributionsAn amazing place to visit. The lava fields are interesting to explore. The hike up to Lenox Crater offered great views of the mountains, Lenox Crater, and other volcanos in the area. The pine forest stands in stark contrast to the scrub brush and desert nearby at Wupatki. They are a great combination of sites to visit.Written 14 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - S R1 contributionAbsolutely amazing experience! To notch staff there to help along the way with any problems and to offer helpful suggestions.Written 30 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- GixxerDallas, TX82 contributionsNeed to have a headlamp & jacket at a minimum. The road to the cave is very bumpy and felt long, so drive slow. I had to use my phone light and it was not ideal since you may need to use both hands for stability and balance. It was technical going down the rocks to get to the cave. Once you get to the cave, it is not always smooth flooring so be careful. It is cold in the cave so a jacket and gloves will help. You can stand in the cave although there is 1-2 spots where you have to bend down to get through. I expected to see bugs but didn't see any. It is pitch dark so a headlight is needed. If you have a helmet, that is helpful too but not absolutely necessary. Enjoy.Written 10 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lindsay jBig Bear Lake, CA1 contributionYou have to be interested in history and the Arts and Crafts movement to get the full benefit of this. - Palomino922Virginia Beach, VA1,069 contributionsThe Visitor Center is right in the heart of Old Flagstaff. It was and is the train depot station. Part is the visitors center, gift shop and museum. Part is the ticket sales for the trains. The building architecture is very interesting.Written 29 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John K2 contributionsVisit made possible only by generous sharing of time by Jim Denton, Pres/GM for the site. I got there the day after closing and he was working to winterize, and still offered to provide information and guidance. Great guy.
Next, for the artifacts and information. Worth more time than I had, with the depth of immersion in area history with native Americans through modern conflicts. I'd read much about WWII while younger, but nothing prepares a non-vet like straight on maps, records, worn uniforms and gear and weaponry.
What comes through is the humanity on both sides of conflict, the reality of which is lost on too many of us. My reactions are personal, and I'd encourage taking your time to see if this well-presented facility won't create the same appreciation in you.
Best to all who make it possible. Thank you Jim.Written 21 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Attended a geocaching event here. The drive up was a bit unnerving for me. Oh so glad there was no snow or ice on the road. The gondola looked interesting but I decided not to take in the views from the top. Looks like a great place for winter and summer fun.Written 30 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Palomino922Virginia Beach, VA1,069 contributionsThe museum is very nicely laid out with something for everyone. Geology, art work, authentic cultural items, and history. Parts seem very personable with artifacts tagged by members of the local tribes. I was particularly interested in one entire section devoted to the importance of horses to Native Americans. It had authentic horse tack such as bridles, saddles, artwork and photography. A very passionate and interesting docent was available for further information.Written 29 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
