The French Quarter is just something that you have to see when in New Orleans. Our lodging was in the Garden District and we visited the French Quarter on two afternoons. It was easy to get there using the St. Charles streetcar. We enjoyed taking in the sights. This is a great place for people watching.
I am SO glad we found Frenchmen Street - a welcome adventure after the non-appealing Bourbon Street. Wonderful vendors & restaurants in a safer environment.
Beautiful architecture. The speed bumps along the roads were a little annoying since we were already driving slow, but the homes were well kept and fun to see.
Beautiful park! Some unhoused folks might be seen outside the perimeter of the fenced-in square. The best view is from the plaza across the street, where you can get some pictures of the cathedral, the river, or yourself with the epic NOLA site.
This was one of the most enjoyable jazz concert experiences ever for me. 100% professional, from start to finish. I didn't have a drink, but I'm told that they are quite good also.
My daughters and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour but the introductory film seemed a bit dated. It was fun for my daughter who has lived in NOLA for the past 4 years to learn about floats that she actually saw in action during recent Mardi Gras parades.
From my first trip in the 1990s and all 20 or so since, I never miss Royal Street - a MUST visit for any visit to New Orleans. If you are in New Orleans for a short time just wants to get the BEST French Quarter experience, a walk on Royal Street is a great place to start.
Any zoo that starts with flamingos is going to be fun. We enjoyed the exhibits, especially the two aviaries. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the food at the Zoofari cafe was hot and tasty. I didn't expect such good food, but I guess it's a New Orleans requirement.
It's only been a week since I came to this city. After visiting a few places, I wanted to come here too. Even though I don't like the weather and water, the places to visit are nice.
Magazine Street was within walking distance of our lodging. We enjoyed browsing some of the shops, but didn’t buy anything. We had lunch & dinner at different restaurants on Magazine Street our first day. I anticipate that we will try some other restaurants there before we end our trip. We felt safe walking the 20 minutes there & back.
A beautiful walk around a golf course. A few playgrounds for kids. Lots of water features/ponds. About a 1.5 mile loop. Well marked. Lots of people...we felt very safe.
Highly recommend using the street car system for your trip to NoLa. We downloaded the LePass app and bought the multi-day Jazzy Passes ahead of time. Then it was as simple as activating the pass in app and showing the driver each time we boarded. It’s very inexpensive and efficient way to travel around the city during the day. Just beware in the afternoon the cars get very full and are standing room only!
Small but hopping. This is at the far end of Bourbon Street away from the main part but its just a short walk and worth it. It was busy both times we went and it is hard to get a table. Try to stay away from the tables by the bar as it gets so crowded.
Nothing is "cheap" on Bourbon Street so keep that in mind. We had a Hurricane and the Purple Drink - and they are strong!
There is a guy who plays the piano in the back and if you can get a seat around the piano its a lively and fun sing-along while you have a drink for 3. Like every place on Bourbon Street - its loud and crowded - don't expect an intimate conversation to occur. But just smile, take a big drink and sing along to your favorites.
My daughter and I had a great time meeting the other class members and following the instructions of Chef Ricardo! Learned interesting facts and reusable techniques! Delicious food was the topper!
