Fantastic food walk with Akhil who was a pleasure to get to know and who took me to a bunch of interesting places to try all kinds of different food and drink while walking around Alappuzha/Alleppey! A great way to spend an evening here.

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. Been here a wee while now and nothing took my breath away more than the beauty for going through the river side villages, which the big boats just can’t.

It was an amazing experience looking into the lives of these people.

The guide is a wonderful guy and great guide. More than happy to chat with you or let you sit in amazement.

    Highly recommend!

Awesome route through the canals, it does get very hot but they warn you about that, would recomend covering all of your skin including legs if your pale. The lunch rest point was very nice and the family that hosted me made a very nice classic Kerela lunch. My guide was awesome, pointed out interesting locations and timed the tour to my pace. He also helped me get back to alleppey via public transport.

We loved our kayaking experience with Smally at Nadodi Kayaking! Our guide Smally was punctual and friendly. We paddled for about half an hour through the canals of the moonlit villages before getting to the sunrise point. We floated and waited for the sunrise and saw many species of birds flying over head. As sunlight filled the sky, other boats joined the water, such as the iconic Kerala houseboats. We then paddled to a small shop on the water, and had a delicious fried banana and hot tea. Kayaking back to the starting point was very special, to see the morning routines in the villages. Kayaking was the perfect opportunity to get a glimpse of life and nature in Alleppey.

We have enjoyed our Kerala tour. Mr. Arun at Iris put together a very nice itinerary for us and he was accommodating in making some changes when I asked for them. He was also very helpful in fixing some issues that came up along the way. Our driver, Mr. Anoop, was excellent. He’s kind, helpful and very informed and made our trip very easy. I would highly recommend him.

Pros: amazing scenery, delicious and varied food, excellent service, comfortable bed, clean, aircon, fans in the bedroom and dining area as well. The tour in the smaller boat down smaller rivers was the most interesting part, though relatively short. The sections that were less busy with other boats were also particularly enjoyable. There is an amazing view out of the bedroom window. We saw loads of beautiful birds, a mongoose and stunning lush scenes of paddy fields and water lilies. The views were particularly impressive at sunset and dawn, with pink and golden light reflecting off the river. A surreal and memorable experience. There’s nothing to do but relax, so would recommend getting as much exercise as possible the day before if you’re the active type!
Cons: brown water in the taps with limited water pressure at times (we didn’t risk the shower). Slightly odd dynamic being waited on by two reserved people who didn’t speak much English while we lazed around in this lavish boat under the watchful gaze of locals on the surrounding banks, though the staff were very attentive and polite. We saw other tourists taking photos of local people, which I can imagine might feel quite intrusive. It’s a long time motoring very slowly around a lake that’s often busy with other boats, so worth having an audiobook or something to listen to while you enjoy the views. Definitely wouldn’t recommend for more than one night, as might get a bit boring. 21 hours was plenty!

Akhil was our tour guide and how lucky were we to have him . A university lecturer who knew so much about Allepey. He listened to what we needed from the tour and helped us get the best experience.
We can only reccomend the tour as value for money with some unforgettable photos .

Highly recommend this activity. I booked it mainly out of interest for birdwatching, but in the end was very positively surprised by the entire experience. Discovering the area by bike made for a lovely morning exercise; Tubin goes at your pace and is a great guide, sharing his knowledge of Kerala, birds, cycling, culture, food, etc.

Mrs. Rajula's cooking class was so much fun! My husband and I absolutely loved learning how to cook traditional Kerala dishes from her. She invited us into her home and we cooked several dishes right in her own kitchen, which was incredibly organized and clean. Mrs. Rajula is an expert in the kitchen and she made it easy to understand how to prepare the dishes. I can't wait to cook them at home in the USA! She was so funny and kept the class light hearted and enjoyable.
Prior to cooking, she served us coffee and tea and we had a chance to chat with her and her husband about life in Kerala. She is a great conversationalist. After we made the food we all ate at her dinner table, with her husband, and we took turns playing our favorite songs on his very nice stereo.
I absolutely recommend taking this cooking class. It's a unique experience in Alleppey!

This was a great trip. Practically it is exceptionally well organised by the company with all the details covered so you know what to expect and have no concerns. Our driver/host Achu was fabulous. Avery considerate and safe driver, an interesting and chatty travel companion - nothing was too much trouble and he was very happy to adapt the trip to our requirements.

The houseboat trip was the highlight for us. So peaceful and beautiful. We saw so much though, Cochi is fascinating, especially the old Jewish area, and the tea plantations around Munnar are breathtaking.

It was dry when we went so no waterfalls, and the nature reserve at Munnar was closed for mating season, so maybe later in the year would be better.

We would thoroughly recommend this trip.

The Backwater Boat trip was very good even if not quite the type of backwater that I had expected - Houseboats themselves were very good as were their staff and the Lunch provided - It was a long drive to get there over two and a half hours although coming back we seemed to take a quicker route and back to the port in plenty of time - The two Tour guides with us were also very good and informative

Just returned back from 11 days in beautiful Kerala, completing the fabled triangle, Kochi, Munnar, Thekaddy and back to Kochi.

This was a very last minute trip, so it was imperative that the tour operator was able to quickly pull together options for me (3 days). Anoop at Saffron was amazing - right from the initial contact, he understood my requirements based on what type of trip we were looking for and what was good and what to avoid. Anoop created a bespoke package for us within a few days, and that gave me the confidence to commit and book my tickets from London to Kochi.

We had one driver for the tour, who went at our pace, and stopped where we wanted and when we wanted to break. There was no pressure or rushing around - which is really important when the key element is to relay and enjoy the views as you travel through the amazing countryside.

The hotels that Anoop suggested were great, and cannot complain on the rooms, food or service. Just truly brilliant.

Lastly, Anoop also recommended a lovely Ayurveda resort, Nihara, where we spent the last week of our trip. This was again a real gem, as otherwise it’s quite challenging to choose an Ayurveda centre from the dozens that are advertised when visiting from abroad.

If you want to visit Kerala, and be assured that you will be dealing with a professional, family based tour operator, who will tailor the tour to your preferences, I can definitely recommend Saffron Tours.
