What travellers are saying
- kellylamensky1 contributionWhile visiting Bayfield our group of 6 enjoyed the 2.25 hour cruise. Joe was very knowledgeable and he went out of his way to ensure the outing met our expectations with just the right balance of information about Lake Superior, answering our questions, ensuring our safety, and he even let us “help” sail the boat. Our entire group felt it was a highlight during our getaway to Bayfield.Written 30 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Barb JGrand Rapids, MI326 contributionsWe took the Grand Tour in late September. Our trip was delayed due to repairs to our boat, which was a little inconvenient but we managed. We then arrived early to get good seats and were again delayed due to weather, which was not their fault. During all of the storm waiting, the original boat was put back in service, and everyone was transferred over to that boat. We were a little frustrated as we were there so early to get our perfect seats, and the transfer did not take place in any particular order, so we did not get our seats we wanted. We were offered to take another tour, but were only going to be there that day so we had to go. In any event, the staff were all very nice, the captain and narrator were very friendly and knowledgeable. The trip is approximately two hours, you see a lot of rock formations and caves - but mostly at Devil's Island. There are several lighthouses and buildings to see on the other islands and the history is very interesting. Parking for this was very difficult, it would be nice if they had designated parking lots. Overall, we did have a good time!Written 20 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- cnmne27Green Bay, WI37 contributionsWe signed up for a Guided Kayak Adventure tour. The Trek and trail facility provided the necessary that we needed for the trip. Included in the price of the trip was a wet suit, a tandem sea kayak, life jacket, a kayak skirt, to prevent water getting into the kayak, and two guides. There were 12 people in the group, along with 2 guides who were each in their own kayak. The guides gave a brief introduction to provide all the details for the experience. Once the intro was complete, we all went down to water at Meyer's Beach on Lake Superior. The tour lasted 3 hours. We kayaked parallel to lake shore and into and around the rocks/caves. It was incredible. Mother nature at it's finest! Our guides were knowledgeable, and informative. It was a very fun trip; I would highly recommend the experience.Written 23 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Betty K1 contributionWe had reserved a 5 hour charter with True North Sailing. Unfortunately rain was in the forecast. Our captain texted us the day before and day of the sailing to find out our availability to reschedule. Unfortunately we had other tours planned, but was able to get in a 2 hour sailing on another day. We appreciated the flexibility of the company to work with us. We were charged a 2 hour sailing and were refunded for the 5 hour sailing. Even though we were not able to go out very far (followed the coast for a bit, then went to Madeline Island and back to dock) the family thought it was enjoyable and peaceful.Written 15 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - M J WhitneyForest Lake, MN8 contributionsHad a fantastic 5 day cruise on a captained sailboat in the Apostle Islands. Captain Gordy took us to 7 lighthouses on 6 islands. Definitely a trip of a lifetime. We spent a full day in Bayfield after the cruise. Cute town too!Written 29 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Tina T5 contributionsThis was by far the highlight of our trip. Pete was able to get us out to the farthest points and maneuver into several caves and turn off the motor to allow us to listen and take pictures of the unique landscaping this area has to offer.Written 2 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Shannon B1 contributionThis has been on my bucket list for a long time. It did not disappoint! Jen, Tony and JoJo were the best— extremely knowledgeable, good at teaching us how to handle the dogs and sleds. They were friendly and patient.
The trails were beautiful, even on a cloudy day.
They took us on groomed trails that were scenic and challenging and not too hard for rookies.
Don’t put it off! Get out of your comfort zone and experience this. Their generous spirits showed through as they guided our group from Sand Island to Oak Island and back, all with great food, awesome stories and outstanding skill on the water, ensuring that our trip was and safe AND awesome. I would recommend to anyone!Written 22 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- annathreadcraftBirmingham, AL49 contributionsI can’t say enough about this tour. Travis was our guide and was phenomenal. He walked us through the safety prep, sized us all quickly for our life jackets and skirts and even offered to lend $5 cash if anyone didn’t have it for the parking fee.
The actual tour was stunning. We not only paddled by the caves but also through several of them! Travis always made sure we felt safe and provided interesting background information about the area and the local Native Americans as we went along. The tour group was perfectly sized at 6 people and my friend and I shared a tandem kayak. We felt like we could take our time and really soak in the beauty of the rock formations and take photos. We were even given information about a local PowWow taking place that day with food stands and dancing, which we were able to attend later that afternoon. I would highly recommend this tour group loved the experience.

We enjoyed learning about several original residents of Bayfield and how they envisioned Bayfield’s future. Along with Native American history and the different industries that put Bayfield on the map, this was a great tour to learn Bayfield’s history.Written 10 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Anne SLake Saint Louis, MO66 contributionsBooked with Apostle Island Tours for "Grand Tour" and the "Stockton Island Day Hiking" trip.
The Grand Tour was very informative and scenic! The captain/guide of the boat (from the national parks) provided so much information about Lake Superior, the lighthouses, wildlife and stories about the people who were part of the history of the area. We saw bald eagles and a nest with eaglets. The sea caves are amazing! Well worth the price.
Stockton Island was also worth the visit. We enjoyed a hike and saw a variety of views of Lake Superior and the island's rock formations along the shore. No bears, but lots of mosquitoes.Written 11 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I had read the reviews here and decided that Nourse Charters would be a safe bet for a fun charter trip. Captain Jeff did not disappoint! He was able to fit us in and took my husband, my son, our dog and me on a private tour of several of the islands. The weather was unusally warm so it was nice to get out on the water and cool off! He was a great guide and very knowlegeable about all of the sights. Easy going and super friendly! I highly recommend Nourse Charters! Thank you, Captain Jeff!Written 17 June 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Kevin M21 contributionsJust did a 5 day/4 night sailing, one of the most relaxing vacations I’ve had in years. No rush laid back sailing, learned and saw so much. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get away for a few days. Loved being out on the lake with no phone service, it’s like a whole other world.Written 31 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
