Best price I could find online for this experience - we went for the comfy seats and you are given a bike lock and helmet. There weren’t any maps available but the guy showed us the route on a big map at the stand - essentially ride round the piers until you get to the bridge. There were three hills, but not too taxing and we just pushed the bike up one of them. I was suprised about the lack of signage given the route is so popular but it’s pretty obvious where to go and you can always follow other cyclists as they tend to be heading the same way. The bridge itself is quite narrow for the cycle and you are sharing it with cyclists coming back into SF so can be hectic especially on the really narrow sections. The avid cyclists can be rude to amateur cyclists like us. Not very clear how to get to Sausalito once over the bridge - the signage is for the scenic route but everyone else seemed to be going down the road which felt pretty dangerous merging with the traffic coming off the bridge. Nonetheless we had a great day and came back via ferry after lunch. It was the highlight of our whole trip !

We hired 2 x e bikes from these guys. The process of hiring was easy but somewhat frustrating. A $500usd deposit had to be given at the time of booking (we were told it could not be in cash). Once we returned the bikes the cost of the rental and the insurance that we took out was deducted from the $500 and the balance is to be refunded to our card in 5-7 days! We also had 4% tax added as we paid by card and not cash, even though we asked if we could pay by cash to avoid having to leave the country effectively with money being owed to us. Common sense needs to prevail with tourists. Where are we going with a bicycle? We aren't taking it home and if insurance has been taken out such a big deposit shouldn't be required.

Despite everything the bikes were great, highly recommend hiring e bikes as it makes the hills easier and you get much much further.

Great experience. Good value for money. The staff are friendly and really helpful - checking the bikes are ready, at the right height, getting a helmet etc. Actually riding the bikes was so much fun, particularly going over the bridge and down the hill into Sausalito - which is such a nice, beautiful place! Would highly recommend hiring bikes and using this company.

My husband and I rented E-bikes to explore Golden Gate Park. The bikes were easy to use and in great shape. All staff at the store were super helpful and just all around good people. We would definitely rent from here again! Thanks for a great day!

It is hard to pick the right place to rent bikes and we are so glad that we chose the Sports Basement! I wish I could remember who helped us because he was great. (clerk 178 from our receipt!) He made sure that our bikes were each set up perfect for each rider, explained how to operate them, and gave suggestions of where to go. We def recommend the electric bikes! Don't hesitate to get those! We rode 17 miles and wished we had more time.

I was given an used bike that needed some fixing up. Friends had suggested other places in the city but it would involve me pushing a flat tired bike 30 minutes. While random googling I found this place within 10 minutes walking distance! I called on a Saturday and was told they are open Sunday at noon. I pushed my bike out and waited a little as Michael helped the guy in front of me first. When it came to my turn, I told him the situation and he helped me fix up the bike. It took over an hour but with new basket, handle bars, pumped up tires, straightened wheels, it only cost me $40! This is great value considering where this place is. While Michael worked on my bike, we chatted everything from his experiences to living in the city. You do have to realize this is a non-profit, he is not doing this for money so do expect to wait. While waiting, I saw lots of people not willing to wait and left. He is able to fix bike, take bike donation and have bike rental in one small hut.

I also inquired about mountain bike rental, which he does have. We can rent on Saturday and return on Sunday if we have an enclosed garage and he will provide locks. They are open just on the weekends now so do call before you go. Overall I am very excited to get my "new" bike!

We rented 4 bikes from the ferry building location They clearly explained how to get to Sausalito, and then we had the option, for an added charge, to leave the bikes there and ferry back. Perfect! They were friendly and convenient.

My husband and I did the overnight bike trip and loved it. The guides were all helpful and friendly and made sure no one got left behind, helping with technical issues when needed. It was so nice not to have to carry any camping gear and have all the food taken care of for the trip. And the food was delicious and plentiful (and they accommodated dietary restrictions).
There were different distance/climbing options both days and the a range of speeds. We had a group of 30 (largest they do) and so there were some times where the wait felt a bit long for the whole group to catch up, but overall it was great. The scenery was beautiful and I appreciated that they kept us on bike trails as much as possible.

It all sounded too good to be true but it is for real. The bicycle hire is the same price as the other rental shops in the area but whatever you spend on bicycle hire you get a credit note for that value which can be redeemed in Sports Basement close to the bridge.
The hybrid bikes we rented for 40$per day were excellent, well maintained and comfortable. The rental staff were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We cycled along the waterfront and over the bridge then on to Sausalito and beyond. On return we stopped at The Sports Basement (Decathlon equivalent) and chose 80$ worth of goodies. We then cycled to Lombard street and down the zig zag hill on the bikes which was great fun and a real experience.
We had an awesome day and cannot rate the bike rentals highly enough.
On the way out we stopped at The warming hut for a coffee - just by the bridge on the south side. On the way back we had a light lunch which was excellent and good value for money.
The weather was very kind to us too- What more could you ask.

Eagle Rider San Francisco made it easy to rent a motorcycle. Although I made my reservation using their web site, the staff in San Francisco also gave me personalized attention to make sure I had a great trip.

The location is close to public transportation and it is possible to take the train from either SFO or Oakland Airport. When I visited they offered luggage storage.

Picking up and dropping off the bike was even easier than a rental car.

My experience could not have been better.

Went online and hired bikes an hour before they opened as they were the earliest to open in the morning and had a discount doing online. When we arrived at the shop we were quickly provided with bikes, helmets, lock and a map. Off we went for the day, cycling over Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, back on the ferry, along the wharf and around the presidio before returning. Was. Great price and way to see the area.

I thoroughly enjoyed mountain biking with Mark. Great guy. Lots of local knowledge with post ride bar recommendations. He took me on trails that were perfectly matched for my abilities (and complementing my climbing abilities to make me feel good. E-bike wasn't necessary - climbing was challenging but doable. I didn't being my biking shoes but riding without clips was probably the better option. Only wished I'd brought some gloves. The bike that Mark provided was dialed in - a great full suspension 29er.
