- Thomas VOakland, CA18,905 contributionsI think it's getting better. There is a new exercise area that is popular. People were out and about, going to a concert, on the way to food. There is a somewhat sketchy feeling, but it did not seem dangerous, even after dark. The city has always had a challenge to make the big open center square feel welcoming when it never had a pleasant design.Written 27 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas VOakland, CA18,905 contributionsUsed to be a movie theater, or I think 2 movie theaters, and the venue worked well for that. Then it was renovated, made into one theater with some restoration of the old architecture. But most of the seats were removed, so you should prepare to stand. Now used for concerts or special events.Written 30 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ryunami lMalaysia1,899 contributionsIt was a very short and quick stop in front of San Francisco's majestic City Hall and State Office Building.
San Francisco City Hall is the seat of government for the City and County of San Francisco, California. The present building replaced an earlier City Hall that was destroyed during the 1906 earthquake, which was two blocks from the present one.
The principal architect was Arthur Brown, Jr., of Bakewell & Brown, who also designed the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House, Veterans Building, Temple Emanuel, Coit Tower and the Federal office building at 50 United Nations Plaza. The building's vast open space is more than 500,000 square feet and occupies two full city blocks. Its dome, which owes to Mansart's Baroque domes of the Val-de-Grâce and Les Invalides in Paris, is 19 ft (5.8 m) higher than the United States Capitol.
Such a majestic, romantic building which i wish i had the time to see the inside buildings.Written 12 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tucked away on the 6th floor of the Main Public Library is a treasure trove of random items, books and art of the City. Some random items included in the collection:
Mayor [now senator] Diane Fienstein's Wedding dress
A collection of menus from various restaurants that were on display earlier this year
A greeting card collection
An amazing collection of photos dating back to the Gold Rush. Many are available online in a searchable database.
A stained glass window showing the ferry building removed from a hotel that was torn down to make way for Moscone Center.

But there it is amidst all the chaos. When I worked in the area I walked past it a zillion times.Written 28 April 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
