What? You have never been to the Exploratorium? Or "Explo" as the cool kids call it? It's budget-friendly and has something to offer, even those folks who think "what's that? Is it 'science' or some such?" Yeah, even you! Make your way there on public transit or your two feet. Right there on the bay with the bridge in the background? Come on! Do it. No, really. Do it!

A busy marketplace with unique products to choose from. The bookstore is lovely and has cute greetings cards. The local, handmade products may be more pricey.

Chocolate lover’s dream! The famous sundaes are a must-try, with rich chocolate and creamy ice cream that’s truly indulgent. The cozy, nostalgic vibe and quick, friendly service make it perfect for a sweet treat. Don’t forget to grab some chocolate to take home!

I was interested in the beautiful building of The Emporium department store which was built 1896 in style of Modern Renaissance. The building survived the 1906 earthquake but was destroyed by the following fire. But it was rebuilt in original style in 1908. I found that at the beginning of this century (21st) the building changed hands, inside was totally rebuilt with exception of the dome - which is beautiful and which was incorporated into new Westfield department store. Luckily they kept the facade from 1908 and it's beautiful. I went inside but was not interesting to buy anything also to see what is there.

The farmers market runs for four days a week outside of the main area of the ferry terminals. Otherwise there are occasional stalls .

The Center is in the midst of Japantown which is not big but most cities don't have any Japantown. Restaurants, food stores and other places. I loved a general store, like a Japanese Dollar General that had lots of things I would not find elsewhere. Not sure I would make this an excursion but definately worth the detour if you are nearby, and you likely will be nearby. It is central.

We loved this bookstore and appreciated the eclectic variety of authors and topics. It’s reasonably well organized and easy to navigate.

Macy's is my go-to as I love their Style & Co brand. I found their area and was in heaven. However, trying to find clothing by type is tough. For example, I wanted a denim jacket but with the store organised by brands, means I had to go hunting down each plus-size brand to find options and then take it all back to one central area to use a changing room.
I wish stores would offer a little more assistance with the trying-on experience, which is honestly the most stressful.
To save time, I collected like 25 outfits (probably knowing 18 of them wouldn't fit me properly) and tried to take them all in with me but of course this wasn't allowed.
You're only allowed 8 pieces maximum which means you've got to take your top, pants, shoes off and on several times to come back outside to get more items. It truly is an annoyance women dislike when shopping.
This Macy's is sizeable but of course finding staff to assist isn't always easy or simple.
I feel there should be customer call buttons in prominent places to get assistance.
There's a cafe and wine bar in this Macy's so companions can wait and relax in comfort while you shop.

I enjoy the urban design of this large complex containing shopping, eating, offices and hotels. There is harmony in the architecture and it is very pedestrian friendly. Sadly with the decline of retail and work-from-home, the place is not as lively as it used to be, but it still looks good. Come here for a meal.

I went to the store area of the Chinse Cultural Center. They had some cute kids books for the upcoming Chinese New Years (Year of the Rat).

It was a quick visit this time as they were int he midst of setting up a new art exhibit. The new art collection willl be available to see February 8, 2020.

This open to the public flower market housed was more than I was expecting. We enjoyed an hour walking around and seeing the large variety of cut and potted flowers for purchase. I was a little disappointed that the cost for retail sale was more than at my local florist , but the variety greatly exceeded what the florist stocks. I understand everything costs more but was expecting a slightly better price. Definitely a place to go if you are looking for something specific both in flowers, vases/vessels, and ribbon - They even had black Calla lilies!

This mall definitely wins most improved award. On a Sunday afternoon the mall is crowded and vibrant. Mostly mainstream Mall stores, but a few unusual places. If you're into pokémon, there's an entire store filled with pokemon. The gadget store has the best selection of phone mounting devices I've ever seen, including amazon. And the food court, although almost exclusively Asian food, was decent. The mall appears to be clean and all of them all patrons are wearing masks, even though they don't have to.

A very good outdoor market where one can find some exotic produce, mostly from the local area. It is an important affordable food resource for the low income area around and always attracts a crowd.

A quality store with many of your favourite brands. Although they come with a price tag, the products are typically high quality that don't wear out within months. Nor are they over the top fashion that need to be replaced by next season's new fashions.
