Acadia National Park is a must see. Day one was foggy so we couldn’t see Cadillac Mountain. We went back the next day and it was worth the wait!

Staying in Southwest Harbor, we spent a week exploring the Island; Acadia, the Harbor towns, and much of the amazing natural wonder of this area (we did separateTA reviews on several of these).
Being early May, tourist traffic was not yet daunting; allowing for easy travel, comfortable access to attractions, and ready seating at eateries. It also allowed for the opportunity to engage with some local inhabitants; before the "season" chaos overwhelmed their ability to leisurely converse.
The beauty of the Island is truly impressive; and we look forward to future visits.

Though we drove along, more than we hiked this walkway; this is still a wonderful option to explore.
We did experience some sections by foot, around Sandy Beach and Thunder Hole.
Being early May, these areas had a fair amount of visitors; but nothing like what we hear occurs in "season". Parking was full, but not unobtainable; and the Trail was busy, but not impassable.
In any case, the views are spectacular; and allows one to understand the power and impact of the Island's coastline.

Absolutely loved the views! It was way less crowded than Acadia closer to Bar Harbor. The drive was beautiful and very scenic. We were also able to get out a lot and walk around.

Very cool to walk across to the island during low tide. Be sure to check times for low/high tide. Fun to look for shells/see the seaweed etc. interesting to see it again when tide was high. Difficult to find parking. Have to park along street and pay then walk to area.

Perfect place to start the day and stroll along the bay. Beautiful view of Frenchman Bay and Bar Harbor Inn. Trail circle along the waterfront and back into town. Absolutely lovely!

Very beautiful views. We stayed for about 2.5 hours. Took a slew of pictures. The drive up was also great. The only complaint we had was the souvenir shop. I bought an ice cream sandwich and my wife had a chocolate covered ice cream on a stick. The cost was $23.19 for 2 ice creams. No prices on the freezer. Didn't know how much till we got to the cash register. Beware.

My favorite little shop, excellent prices and selection and very appreciative staff despite it being an extremely busy time for tourism.

Considered a "small" lake, this is an incredibly beautiful place and worth the time to visit. Can get some amazing pictures here. Keep an eye out for wildlife.

Nice place to visit for anyone interested in ecology or nature. Located on school grounds operated with the help of the students. The college is located on Eden Street on the waterfront.

We visited Egg Island as part of a Nature Cruise...saw Harbor Seals sunning themselves and many nesting birds. Two Harbor Porpoises swam by while we were there as well.

The island is at the mouth of the Harbor with Atlantic Ocean beyond. It's remote and a refuge for the many animals and birds who live there. A beautiful spot. I recommend a cruise out there...Enjoy!
