We took the early (6:45 am) trip, catching a beautiful sunrise in the process. At first the whales were nowhere to be seen, but we could hear their songs from the onboard hydrophone, with its deep water mic. Very cool. Then we spied a group of whales, most likely males, swimming close to each other and making themselves look bigger. The behavior was fascinating. The boat turned off the motor when we got close, and we watched. They swam off, and we found them again, and had some time to watch more. Our captain and first mate were very knowledgeable and helped enrich the viewing experience.
