What travellers are saying
- MikeCleveland, OH119 contributionsThis museum was surprisingly awesome - the exhibits were immersive and well made. We have a 2 year old and we were looking for somewhere to walk around in December when we stopped in Charleston on a road trip - this was perfect! Not only were the exhibits immersive and interactive for kids but there was interesting historical information about West Virginia too. And the Christmas decorations were great too!Written 31 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- SUNILDASWANEYSharjah, United Arab Emirates626 contributionsThe Capitol Building is extremely clean spacious and very well maintained. This is the first time i have visited a Parliament building and I must say that it was very insightful taking a peek into a piece of history, and getting some sort of idea how things are done in this August institutionWritten 15 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jbwhitehouseDallas, TX1,861 contributionsExcellent sculptures as part of large memorials for West Virginians who gave their lives defending in different wars. There is also an impressive listing of their names for each war. There is metered parking nearby and is next to the Culture Center and West Virginia State Museum.Written 18 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ashley RJonesville, MI364 contributionsVery cute place, has a little bit of everything. Cool spot to walk through and check out. Got my kids some cool stuff for gifts. - PurpleAnkhFort Washington, MD268 contributionsI loved the Romare Bearden exhibit. The interactive activities available to children and families throughout the museum were very engaging. As an educator I appreciated the book cubes throughout the museum that supported the subject of the exhibits or extended learning beyond what was available in the individual exhibits. There is an outdoor sculpture garden. The museum has three floors of activities and exhibits.Written 2 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brandon YLargo, FL13 contributionsVery interesting history of WV and the U.S.A. A lot of preserved artifacts and guided tour. Step back in time. Visited with aunt and mom. Could have made a whole day trip out of this. Must see if in a Charleston.Written 6 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Joseph DOmaha, NE15 contributionsHiked the rocky ridge trail with a 2yr old. It was a nice trail and would do again! The trail was somewhat difficult and we had to carry the baby, but nothing too technical.Written 24 May 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TennisStar602New Jersey625 contributionsCapitol Street was safe and well maintained. It was full of nice restaurants with metered parking, save for certain hours and for Sundays. Interstate 64 was not far away from this area. Still, much of the cafes were not open on a Sunday afternoon.Written 8 November 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Zach GMount Airy, NC53 contributionsWe attended the opening concert of the season, complete with dinner beforehand. It was outstanding on all levels. Dinner and company was wonderful. Maurice Kohn, the music director and conductor, made his rounds during the dinner and made everyone feel welcome, even we out-of-towners.
The orchestra played an amazing concert. The Khachaturian masquerade suite was outstanding. Beethoven’s 7th symphony was even better. Maurice Kohn had an amazingly intuitive and very obviously well studied interpretation of the piece. His interpretation was true to the nature of the piece and what I would consider traditional. Beethoven himself would have been happy to hear his 7th symphony played this way over 200 years after its premier.
The West Virginia Symphony is worth traveling to see. We certainly will continue to travel from NC to do so.Written 3 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We enjoyed shopping and a dinner at Chilis, which was conveniently located right outside the mall doors.Written 25 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TWBCincinnati, OH2,467 contributionsWe were in town the weekend of a festival. We were able to park a few blocks from the river easily. The river is pretty and the band was excellent. There were not many vendors set up, but I appreciate what they are trying to do here. Not too many people attending the festival otherwise, but we were there early in the evening. Police presence was heavy, which is nothing to complain about, but worth noting.Written 23 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - recorderPineville, MO1,817 contributionsWe were overnight tourists looking for something to do at night and chose a ballgame. The park is nice enough, and we got real good seats at a great price. Very nice atmosphere and we enjoyed our stay.Written 16 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
