We hiked the Star Trail to get to the top. It was a moderate hike with a rocky terrain but the trail was well marked. (We used All Trails app). The view and star at the top were well worth the climb. Highly recommend making this a part of your trip to Roanoke. The star lights up at night too and can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. ❤️

We went for the trains in particular, but this museum has multiple other modes of transportation history. Lots of antique cars, displays about ships and planes, a model train layout and a complete miniature circus are among some of the interesting things.
Most important to us was the 611 and the 1218 locomotives, which we had ridden behind back in the 1980s.

Had an awesome visit at the Black Dog Salvage. Was so great to see so many creative items and look at all the vendors goods. This was always on my wife’s bucket list and she was thrilled to meet Mike, one of the owners!

We went first to the Virginia Museum of Transportation and since we planned to go to the Link Museum, it was only another couple dollars to get the combo ticket for both.
If you are a railfan or a photography fan this little museum is worth your time. We were the only ones there in the late afternoon. We spent 1.5 hours wandering the exhibits and there is a nice half hour film about Link. His photography of the last years of steam locomotives are stunning and it was interesting to see how he got those tremendous shots.

Some lovely art in this small and free museum. The permanent collection rotates so you are never sure what will be on show, but it will be worth your time.

The city of Roanoke talks about the free things to do and visiting the aquarium in the Center in the Square is one of them. If you've seen an aquarium in someone's house then don't stop by here. The view from the 7th floor is supposed to be soooo good but NO. Couldn't find any other reason to visit downtown.

We attended Sunday service while driving through Roanoke to Tennessee and my wife was so impressed with the openness and kindness of the congregation, we are looking into the Roanoke area as a place to retire in 5 years. Can't really give it a higher rating when one is moved to relocate to the area because of the church.

Nicely maintained greenway. Beautiful scenery along the way. Excellent for walkers, runners, bikers, families, and pets. There are places to stop and sit, restrooms, playgrounds, informational signs, and maps. Highly recommended.

We had a great visit here last night listening to I believe his name was Chuck Johnson, a very talented singer/guitarist! The beer was good and cold. Very enthusiastic crowd and very friendly. I definitely would stop here again.

Note while they don’t serve food you can order from the taco joint across the way. We actually ate there before going to the brewery and it was good.

We attended in December and enjoyed the professional actors, excellent voices, and great story line. MMT is a great theatre but after so many years of carefully selecting a show, and then being offended by language, we have not gone for a long time. We went to a Christmas matinee and were pleasantly surprised. If this is the current caliber of shows, we will definitely be back.

We had a good time here and going to Science Centers is one of the things we always do on our vacations so we've seen a lot of them. This one was good for a couple hours and they loved doing the scavenger hunt.
