Ended a nice evening in Roanoke by visiting the Mill Mtn. Star on a clear and beautiful summer evening. Not very crowded and the weather was nice. The parking lot was very close to the star, so don't worry about long walk to see amazing vista.

My husband is a train buff and really enjoyed this museum. I liked that it covered all types of transportation not just trains. My favorite was the old cars. The museum was well kept and has a good variety of items for all ages to enjoy. The train area is impressive if you have never been around old engines--they are huge! I liked the mail car and the nice write-up explaining its history. The other side of the museum that continues with planes and ships did surprise me, that wasn't spoken of in other reviews, they too were well presented. Definitely a place to check out when in the area!

Had a great time playing a large variety of pinball machines, from old retro games to more modern ones. Its a great place for parents to relive memories from games from their childhood and also lots of fun for their kids too. Get the combo pass to check out the Starcade which has a ton of arcade games. Same thing here, tons of classic arcade games that adults will remember from their childhood and their kids will have a blast playing too.

Best part is you don't need any quarters... its play as much as you want!

The free admission did not include admission to all of the galleries. You can go out side on the upper floor and see a great view of Roanoke.

This was a delightful bike ride, and walkers will enjoy it too! Lots of views of the river, including several pedestrian/bike bridges. It passes through several city parks with playgrounds, etc. The sculpture garden at Vic Thomas Park was especially nice.

This is a fun place to visit, with a nice variety of museums, from a lovely aquarium and candy store on the ground level. I visited the pinball museum and the African American history museum upstairs, and both were pleasantly sized - big enough to feel like you had a meaningful experience, small enough to avoid museum fatigue. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout the building, and there were photography exhibits to peruse in the hallways, too. Overall a lovely place to visit. I'd come back and bring my family, and spend more time in all of the museums on offer!

Since we were in Roanoke for a few days, decided to purchase the joint ticket for the Transportation and O. Winston Link Museums. The photos were beautiful and there is a 30 minute film covering his photos, process and life. Note the film starts every hour on the hour if you go as the entire visit is not much longer than 1 .5 hours. It is well worth the visit and the joint ticket is a saving.

We brought our kayaks for a day at this beautiful, peaceful, clean lake. Rental Jon boats, kayaks and canoes are available with life preserver. Parking is well worth the $7. A knowledgeable person will make change for you and give you lots of information

Great for kids 9 years and under. A bit depressing for me as an adult seeing the cats and the black bear pacing back and forth as if they were saying, “God please get me out of here and let me go home!!” The garden trails were very nice. Appreciated the educational signs about the part humans can play in working with the environment. One sign about the millions of plastic bottles ending up in the oceans moved me to buy my friend a travel mug and to buy gallon jugs of water to refill them with.

We were just passing through Roanoke and it was such a blessing to visit St. Andrew's Church. On a Saturday morning, the main doors were locked but as we circled the building, luckily we found a back entrance door that was open for access to pray the rosary. While the exterior of this Gothic chuch is majestic, so too is its interior beautiful and inspiring. The lofty ceiling and stained glass windows are works of art. We also were able to see the small chapel with relics of the True Cross and many saints. St. Andrew Church was dedicated almost 120 years ago and is a real treasue.

Membership can be monthly, overall good prices. Kind of out of the way, but worth it if you live close. The place is well kept with plenty of things to go. Splash Valley is always packed, but has great prices on Wednesdays.

A great variety of menus from the different vendors, housed in this building. The City Market is centered in downtown Roanoke. It is an easy walk to and from the several boutique hotels and the iconic Hotel Roanoke. After a nice meal or refreshment walk down the street towards Jefferson Ave and stop into the magical Market Gallery, at 22 Campbell Ave. across from The City Parking Garage. It is an amazing little hidden jewel. It exhibits truly beautiful, collectible artwork, from regional and out of state artists, at truly affordable prices. It has been in Roanoke for twenty years, everything is original and is easily comparable to fine New York or San Francisco art galleries, without the high prices.

We had a good time here and going to Science Centers is one of the things we always do on our vacations so we've seen a lot of them. This one was good for a couple hours and they loved doing the scavenger hunt.
