Max was very welcoming and helpful in answering all of our questions regarding the menu and also fun to talk to. She was even kneeling on the table beside me to get more pressure into this kink in my shoulder/neck. The music was super relaxing. She only talked to me a couple times asking about pressure and such letting me fully relax. She was off today and came in to help me after I tweaked my back. Super strong hands. She used hot stones, something that smelled like icy hot, manipulated my arms and shoulders and popped my back. Whatever was necessary to get the job done. She told me she has another room with a bar on the ceiling so she can hold onto it and walk on people's backs if needed. The shop has front iron doors with glass and one of the glass panes was out. Feels like a little courtyard when you walk in. It's not fancy, but oh em gee does she get the job done! I received a 90-minute massage for $100.00 – very reasonable. My massage therapist was Hannah, who had amongst the strongest hands I’ve experienced – great for knots and tight areas. The opening for my face was very comfortable, but not adjustable. They have parallel rails in the ceiling, which allows the masseuse to hold them, straddle you while you are face-down, and very effectively use their elbows and knees. I had had this once before and like it – although it may be off-putting for some.
She spent a very long portion of the 90 minutes on my neck, shoulders and back. She didn’t use as much oil/lotion as I am used to, so some of it felt a bit rough, but I had asked for deep pressure and was ok with it. She also remained relatively silent during the massage, which I prefer. All-in-all, it was a very good massage. My only minor issue was I would have preferred for oil/lotion for less friction.
However, I was very off-put at check out, when I handed back my signed credit card receipt with a $20.00 (20%) tip. She looked disapprovingly at it and said that Hannah had worked very hard because I had very tight muscles (which is true), and said she deserved a higher tip. I cannot recall ever in my life having someone question a 20% tip. I added a $5.00 bill on top of the receipt and bid my goodbyes.
