We visited the animal sanctuary as part of our day excursion to the Yarra Valley. The sanctuary is a good size and splits into 3 main areas which you can explore. There is plentiful to see and all the animals are native to Australia. We particularly liked the animal hospital where you can watch the vets perform procedures on their rescue animals. One thing to keep in mind is that there is not much cover between the trails, so keep that in mind if you’re visiting on a rainy day. There is also not too many food options so maybe consider bringing your own meal and snacks particularly if you’re in a big group as the food is a bit pricey.

Lovely area for walks and a picnic.
Rainforest walk is beautiful, just be mindful that at this time of year it’s muddy and slippery.

Quite a surprise to find this out in the country. Designed with empathy for the surrounding lands the architecture was impressive.

Currently they are expanding so the top carpark is closed, but, thoughtfully they provide a shuttle bus up the hill for those in need. Mind you would be amazed at the number of able bodied people using the bus.

Exhibits were unusual & well explained, watch out for the croc !

Considered the restaurant but it seemed too grand & pricey for a simple lunch so we went into Healesville, along with the traffic on a Sunday.

Stopped in here randomly after a Google search & glad we did.
Tried a beer paddle to get a taste of everything. The beers are superb!
The locals are welcoming & friendly - this is a really enjoyable and unassuming place to stop.

This Hall was funded by public subscription as a tribute to local men who served in World War One. It was opened in 1924 by the Governor General Lord Forster.

Henry William Forster, 1st Baron Forster, GCMG, PC (31 January 1866 – 15 January 1936) was a British politician who served as the seventh Governor-General of Australia, in office from 1920 to 1925.

The Governor-General of Australia is His Majesty The King’s representative (George V at the time this was opened) . A Governor-Generals key constitutional duties include:

    * Presiding over the Federal Executive Council
    * Facilitating the work of the Commonwealth Parliament and Government
    * Dissolving Parliament and issuing writs for a Federal election
    * Commissioning the Prime Minister; appointing Ministers and Assistant Ministers; and swearing-in other statutory positions
    * Holding and possibly exercising the Reserve Powers.

AND at this time... opening the Memo! The Memorial Hall is quite a stunning tribute to the gallant lads that gave their all for the country. :) War memorial is directly in front of the building. The building is red brick with cream trim.

We stopped a bit late in the day, but we enjoyed a hot cuppa after our busy day.
We purchased some alpaca food and the girls had a good time feeding the alpacas. The staff helped them find them, as the animals were initially out of sight.
My husband and I liked being able to see the massive gerbera greenhouse, as we are keen gardeners.
They also have a small shop where you can buy some of the alpaca wool products.
My daughter found this online and it was a great stop for us.

This is only the second time I have come across a Reuben sandwich in Australia ( a Reuben sandwich is a baguette or sandwich with pastrami, sauerkraut and mustard ).
It is good to see new ideas being introduced and I encourage everyone to give it a go. However, for my taste, there would need to be a few improvements : less pastrami ( for a better balance with the sauerkraut), more sauerkraut - warm and of a stronger flavour such as provided by the commercial products. But having said that, we will go there again to try some more! Well done, chef! Also served with the original version of Coca-Cola.

A pristine piece of Australiana nestled in the Blackspur ranges. Amazing to realise this was a Cobb and Co stopover and a vibrant little town, once upon a time. There are the most beautiful European trees towering among the eucalyptus, even an ancient cork tree!

I was pleasantly surprised by this venue and the ammenities.
We met friends and took a picnic lunch and we spent a very pleasant day.
You can buy food and beer if you can't be bothered packing your own.
Plenty of seating and picnic tables.
Parking is a breeze and it's only a short walk to the gate.
Nothing like a picnic race meeting at this venue.
Only downside is that I didn't pick a winner.

A hidden gem, right in the middle of the main street, you just have to go up the stairs to find this lovely gallery. With a new exhibition every month, there is always something new to see.
Currently holding a group exhibition about what inspires, inspirited has 22 local artists. There is also a small retail section with some great smaller artworks, prints and gifts on offer. All made locally with love.

A solid workout - 6.5km up (10% incline) then down again. In summer, best done early as I imagine it would get quite hot. This is also the best time to enjoy wildlife encounters, including swamp wallabies and lyrebirds!
Some nice views on the way, but you can't see anything from the summit.
The flora is also magnificent - from the towering mountain ash and tree ferns, through to the exquisite native orchids. Keep your eyes peeled!
Possibly not as well-known as other walking tracks, so not too many other people to disturb your forest-bathing.
