They're closed a few days each week as it's sort of off-season while the Ospreys are bag in Africa. But we popped in on a Sunday Morning and had a fabulous coffee and equally fabulous cake. Love it here

A really nice reserve. Great for a walk.
Could happily sit with a cup of tea and watch out the window at the bird feeders all day.

I wanted to make a trip to Machynlleth while studying in Aberystwyth for two reasons - the first was Caffi Alys (now Caffi Glyndwr), and the second was MOMA as I have a soft spot for art museums. I'm glad to say it was worth the visit!

Currently, MOMA are exhibiting entries from their Tabernacle Art Contest (mostly adult entries, but there is a small section dedicated to under-18s) and there are many brilliant pieces to take in. You can also vote for your personal favourite in the main room - I'm unsure if there's a 'people's choice' award, but I kind of hope there is as the judges must've had a very hard time only picking three (and a few 'highly commended' entries)!

Speaking of current exhibitions, on the ground floor of the Tabernacle, there's a small Laura Ashley exhibition ("For The Love of Laura Ashley") comprised of personal loans/donations from local residents, and a small film of family interviews. Alongside this in the Tannery, there's another small exhibition entitled "The Land We Live In", which showcases some beautiful Welsh landscapes from the Tabernacle Collection.

Much of the art is for sale for varying prices. It's not all canvases and wall pieces either; there are some beautiful little glass dragons and slate jewellery on the ground floor if you're looking for something unique for the mantelpiece.

I stayed for around an hour, but there was plenty of room for you to sit and take your time if you so wish. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable - and happy to speak Cymraeg too, so if you're visiting the area as a dysgwr I can recommend MOMA on those grounds, too. Just bring some shrapnel with you if you want to have refreshments in the cafe - it's cash only.

Would recommend - and don't forget to drop into the bookshop next door, too!

It’s not a massive place and it can be done in such a short amount of time but it was pretty amazing.
It’s perfect for a little stop to stretch your legs.

The 'symbol' of Machynlleth and as such it should be better cared for. Very prominent and its link with the local 'laird' well documented. A great location and it looks down on the centre of the town. A busy and dangerous junction here and watch out for traffic wardens.

The bookshop section of this little landmark is wonderful! There's no shortage of bookshops in Machynlleth but this one was particularly charming; plenty on offer for Cymraeg learners, and plenty of Welsh history and literature in both English and Cymraeg. There's also a few nicely-designed totebags on sale behind the counter as souvenirs. The staff are very friendly and when I visited the lady behind the till was happy to chat with me yn y Gymraeg.

The main courtyard outside is a little sun-trap in nice weather. It was being used for a tai-chi session while I visited so I didn't take a closer look at the plants, but the building itself has a lot of character.

It's small, so don't expect to spend all afternoon here, but it's free and definitely worth a look if you're compiling a list of things to do in the area.

We come here quite often on holiday as our son loves the flume! Check the website for swim times and when the flume is open. When it’s busy you’ll get coloured band and a time limit - to be honest an hour is plenty long enough for us! Our son would just spend the whole time on the flume if he could! (Think Dad secretly enjoys it too). It was busy today and you can get cold waiting in the queue for the flume but the main pool was quite warm today.

You need to pay to park so don’t forget change £2 for 2 hours £3 for the day. You will get part of the parking reimbursed - don’t forget to take the correct part of your ticket to reception. It was £14.20 for a family swim with use of the flume.

There are three large family changing rooms and you need £1 for the lockers. If it’s busy you will have to wait for a changing room. The lockers aren’t huge for a family of four’s stuff so I take towels and leave them poolside which isn’t a problem. The showers were hot in the changing rooms which is a plus point.

My quibbles are that the toilets in family change aren’t great and also everyone walks into the changing area with shoes on and unless the staff are cleaning every 5 minutes it’s not ideal. We are used to shoe free changing where our kids usually have their swimming lessons.

Y Plas is the new use for the large Victorian house (that used to hold the Celtica exhibition).

Much of the building is used for local residents - rooms are hired out for classes, clubs, meetings and events. This works well with the leisure centre nearby.

However, there are things to interest visitors to the area. Half of the ground floor has a pleasant cafe - currently open Wed-Sun. There are nice gardens to sit out in. Some flower gardens from when it was a country house. Also a more recent community garden that grows vegetables and other edible plants.

The large lawn is sometimes used for informal music and other performances, Market day (Wednesday) or Saturday are good days to try.

The other half of the ground floor that is not the cafe is used as artists studios including a print maker and potter. When they are in they are happy to talk about their work. You can also go into the reception room/ hallway which has local tourist/ visitor information as well as information about community events.

It is quite low key and not an indoor visitor attraction as Celtica was, but a pleasant spot to drop in on if you are in Mach.

Wonderful day yesterday celebrating my son’s 12th Birthday at Dovey Valley Shooting Ground Ltd & can really recommend this as a top day out for all the family, whether you’re shooting or just spectating!! We had 3 x 12 year, a 16 year old & my husband & father in law all clay pigeon shooting with various levels of prior experience- pretty much very little, non existent or considerably rusty!!!
We enjoyed a really lovely lunch at the cafe there first- great menu, quality, service & surroundings.
The instructor Stu was absolutely brilliant- he immediately made us all feel very welcome & got my 8 year old daughter involved in being in total charge of releasing the clays which she absolutely loved!
The standard of his instruction was just awesome- his absolute attention to detail & focus, really ensuring everyone got the most out of every single shot. It was so much fun even just watching& those of us not shooting all agreed that it gave us confidence to want to join in too next time!!
We chose the “ Have a go”25 clays per person option, which was excellent value for money we felt, giving everyone 5 shots each in 5 different locations- but there are so many packages & locations to shoot from around the grounds so definitely something for everyone & with the friendliest of welcomes & top quality instruction with so much emphasis on safety too👌

Was directed to the train outside the ticket office, the 10.50 to Aberystwyth from Machynlleth without being told that, only the front two carriges go to aber the remaining train where I was sitting was going to Pwllheli. Had to wait an hour for the next ( late ) train.
Missed my meeting because the 3 self important members of Staff who watched me get on the train
and didn't use the one brain cell between them to ask my destination, thanks for asking after the train had gone, hope you enjoyed yourselves at my expense the railways are a shambles, especially transport for Wales. self-important, ignorant staff, with customer service last thing on their minds.

Called in at the craft centre on the way back from a trip to North Wales. The furniture shop Taran Eco Designs was full of unique pieces of furniture. We saw a beautiful oak and yew coffee table which my wife and I knew would fit perfectly in our living room. We learned where the oak and yew came from and the table is now part of our home.
