What travellers are saying
- biertonscout1Aylesbury, UK238 contributionsWifey & I visited the Center for the 1.5 hours fossil tour of the coast. When we arrived we were 2 of around 30 people with children, dogs etc…the main guide, Phil, was very knowledgable and refreshed all our minds about what we were looking for on the beach, gave us a few health & safety rules, introduced the other 3 guides with him and off we went.
Once we got to where he suggested, about a 5 minute walk up the beach we started looking and, now we knew what to look for, we almost immediately started to collect fossils ! Phil & the other guides were on hand to answer any questions we might have regarding what we were finding.
Overall, I can’t recommend the center and its staff too much ! They went way out of their way both professionally & personally to make our visit one to remember. thank you all and we’ll definitely be back again !Written 10 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Find a bucket, small trowel and a packet of sweets, and get yourself down to this beach. Walk along either side of the beach and you will eventually start finding small but perfect fossils of all sorts.Written 13 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It offers up to 150 traders over 4 streets in the height of summer, at the end of 2023, we have more traders than ever, with a constant turnover of both essential and artisan traders.
But - and here's the thing, when the weather's rubbish, there will be fewer traders.
We're not a living museum, we are professional business people, so if stock might be damaged, or the streets empty were less likely to stall out and stand there for 7 hours.
You should also know that Market traders public liability insurance won't cover trading in winds of 22 mph or over.
However there will always be many more traders than the national average of charter Market traders.
Please come and experience an amazing Market.Written 2 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were made welcome from the moment we stepped in. Tour was friendly, informative and very enjoyable. Wine tasting was great and fairly generous (arrange a taxi or a lift!!).
Highly recommended. Our tour guide, Anna (I think…) was great.Written 30 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The guides were so welcoming and there was lots of fun and interesting interpretation throughout - the tactile collection of different locally-made nets worked really well and there were great, up-to-date touchscreens and sound recordings of people who worked in local industries. We also liked the insights into the museum’s history and the approaches to looking after the collections by staff and volunteers today in the captions. The passion and personality of the people who work here shone through. Definitely worth a visit if you’re curious about Bridport’s social and cultural history!Written 6 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steven JShaftesbury, UK12 contributionsThis was our regular December visit to West Bay and we always eat at Sladers Yard. The food is excellent - whatever you choose will be fresh and of high quality. It’s not a fast food outlet so, if you’re in a hurry, go elsewhere. The staff are very friendly and do their best to accommodate the needs of all. I thoroughly recommend eating there - particularly the fish pie or the fish stew - wonderful!Written 1 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MichelleFrome, UK18 contributionsI went on Wednesday with my sister. We’ve been before but not for a while and we were slightly disappointed with the changes in the restaurant since Covid. They had ugly plastic dividers between tables which seems unnecessary now and the menus were rather tatty. The tea shop vibe with tablecloths had gone and it seemed more like a basic cafe.
HOWEVER, please read on! The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful, the service was quick and the food was amazing. There was great attention to detail such as an individual little jug of gravy with my roast ( the roast potatoes were sensational! ) , individual little pots of coleslaw and pickles with my sister’s ploughman’s which was so generous she had to ask for a doggie bag. Everything seemed homemade, and not a plastic sachet in sight.
The setting is as gorgeous as ever so, put those tablecloths back and I’ll give you 5 stars next time!Written 15 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Donna Goold could not have been more helpful, whilst at the same time not pushy at all. We spent a long time chatting and she allowed the time for me to make some decisions and showed me pieces which were not on display, which helped to find the right pieces for our home. Could not be happier. We will revisit when next down in Bridport.Written 27 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
