I know it's freaky, but true. When we asked our son where he wanted to go for a summer vacation trip, he showed us pictures of this Freakybuttrue Peculiarium and Museum. It was then we knew and decided that Oregon was where we were headed to explore. Parking for us was found about one block up and right off of NW Thurmont Street. We paid $2 to the City of Portland using their official mobile parking app, Parking Kitty. Pay to Park up to 4 hours is required in this area of the city 9AM-7PM Mon-Sat unless you have a Zone M permit. We didn't have a Zone M permit, nor do we know or care what that is.

Back in 2019, this same store and museum cost $5 for admission. Fast forward five years later to 2024 and it's $10 for a Gallery Admission One Ticket. Does that mean that in 2029, visitors can expect to pay $20? Woops, I shouldn't have divulged that information that I learned using my time machine since it may cause a paradox. So very sorry.

A poster on the front of the shop provides answers to "What the Heck is This Place? The Peculiarium is an ART GALLERY, featuring urban legends, pop culture, movies, sci-fi, and all things peculiar". We went in and saw what may have been a sculpture of a Deep Ones, a fish-like creature from the novel, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, written by H. P. Lovecraft. There was a framed photographed picture of Cassandra Peterson, who has played Elvira, Mistress of the Dark since 1981. Elvira herself visits Freakybuttrue every year on July 3rd. Don't miss the funny recounting of The Eruption of Mt. St. Helens told by a Peculiarium Intern. We also found a Wacked comic book on The Adventures of Tonya Harding and Her Pals. Who in the world is Tanya Harding? She's just some ice skater from Portland some may say. If you pay extra close attention, you may notice the singer Katy Perry may have also been interested in this particular display area. We also got to enjoy a haunted dollhouse, Vampire killing kit, alien autopsy, Bigfoot, Alfonse "Al" Capone memorabilia, and all things weird and peculiar.

Go with others. Have fun and take pictures at some of their exhibits like the cliffhanger skyscraper parapet and the alien autopsy table. Anything that you can look back at later to remember all the fun you had after deciding to stop by this little shop, that used to be a grocery store back in the 1960s, in northwest Portland is highly recommended.

Street parking was pretty easy - we arrived as two cars were leaving around the corner. Contrary to what another reviewer has said, this is not a "sketchy" area.

Check in was also a breeze - kiosks to sign waivers in case you didn't already fill one out. Coat racks right when you check in.

The first stop is the bar - cocktails were a little pricey at $15. You can bring them with you throughout the exhibit if you're on more of a schedule.

We meant to go for a date night, but had our sitter cancel last minute so we brought our 2 year old with us. He actually made the experience a lot better, seeing everything through his eyes! He loved bouncing on the enormous trampoline (which was a lot safer than a normal trampoline) and the ballpit.

Overall, a fun mix of interactive exhibits. Great for families - I'm not sure how much fun this would be for a couple. The last exhibit was all about acceptance and love and not forcing a "lifestyle" upon anyone, as another reviewer has noted.. Sheesh.

Went to see Robert Frank's "street photos." Limited showing: They will be shredded soon. Also saw some of his cinematography. Excellent unusual works. Don't miss this. Free; donation suggested.

I can’t say enough good things about this fascinating little museum. Despite its location in a bit of a sketchy neighborhood, it is a must see in Portland. Curated in a unique and artful fashion (the short film shown at the beginning of the permanent collection is a marvel), it tells the history of Chinese immigrants in the Northwest in a compelling and engaging way.

Great place to check out art of all kinds. Lots of unique and beautiful 2D and 3D art here, things you usually can’t find in other galleries. Has an authentic local feel and lots of inspiration, as well as a cute book lending library and classroom. Stopping in is a definite must!

My daughter and I were walking around the Pearl District at night and had to stop to admire the lighting display at night in front of Elizabeth Leach Gallery. Very cool! Want to go back during the day and check out the exhibits!

This was my second visit to this wonderful, friendly place- besides glass, where technology, art and craftsmanship get fused together (no pun intended). First time I went there when a field visit was organized by the local AIA (American Institute of Architects) chapter. And second time I took my sister who was visiting me from LA who is a writer and artist herself.

This is one of those places where glass artists, architects, interior designers and creative people get to see, purchase and experiment with thousands of colored glass sheets. Visitors get to see the actual manufacturing process and shipping and packaging process as well. The retail store and gallery is part of the main facility and is a fun experience to stroll through to see a wide variety of raw glass materials, (sheet glass, confetti, dichroic, frit and powder, murrine, rods and stringers), associated tools and supplies for hobbyists and professionals. They are an internationally known manufacturer and supplier of glass raw material and art suppliers. Bullseye also offers on-site classes and studio facility areas for budding glass artists and hobbyists.

Visitors' tours are free but need advance booking. They are the best way to learn and watch how glass is made on large scale. The tours are extremely informative and the staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. The walking tour typically goes for half hour to 45 minutes. Also make sure to wear full pants and closed toe-footwear for your protection. After all, this is a serious manufacturing facility. Nearby there are several wonderful little places to eat and hang out. This is Portland after all...

This museum is part of the Portland Art Museum system and is seemingly unknown by the residents. We were lost a block from it but patrons of the main museum and nearby businesses couldn't give us directions to it. To get there just go to the PAM: it is inside, not in a separate location.

The collection is of excellent quality It's strength lies in the Northwest, as per the name, but other tribes and pueblos are represented as well.

Located in the China Town District it is apart from the main blocks of galleries in the ajoining Pearl District. But it is worth finding. Up on the third floor it occupies the whole floor and has monthly rotating shows as well as representing a lot of artists. This gallery leans to the modern/contemporay arts of regional to international fame. High quality work, not the local new wave or arts and crafts level. If you are up to this level of quality and money, this is a place for you. If your an art student and want to keep up of contemporary professional work this is a place for you too.

This shop/warehouse is located in an up and coming area of Portland called the Historic Industrial area just one block from the Willamette River. The buildings there are antiques themselves!
Asia America has 2 floors, 20,000 square feet of antiques all imported from China, India, Taiwan, Nepal, Thailand, and Japan. There are large furniture pieces, small gifts items, paintings by local artists and several pieces that are just show stoppers like the full size Mongolian Yurt that you can go into and take a break from all the shopping.
The staff are passionate, extremely knowable and they support health and education development projects in Asia.
The prices are very competitive (and sales tax free). They offer shipping across the US.

I dropped in after seeing a piece that caught my eye. The owner / artist was there and explained some processes of the creative works she was displaying. It was a pleasure and hope to revisit when I am in Portland again.
