What travellers are saying
- J B15 contributionsThis was a surprise visit for husband who is ex Technology teacher.
Entrance is free with only a box for donations. We had a very comprehensive and knowledgeable tour from John which took over 1 hour and was also free.
Although some of the more technical info passed me by, you can't help but marvel at the work that Victorians put into buildings which were only seen by the workers.
I sometimes left them to it and sat down and looked around! I thoroughly recommend the tour but wear sensible shoes as there are some spiral staircases.Written 16 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We had travelled about 30miles to visit the marina and hadn’t booked but chanced going in. We were met by staff who said a table for four was available but food was up to an hour wait. We said fine as we could sit and chat with a drink. Once seated another lady (I think was the manager) approached us and with an apology said food would definitely be an hour. We said that was still ok as we would wait. She took our drink order and put that straight through and as we continued ordering with her our drinks arrived. Not too long after our starters arrived, then there was a break and yes it was an hour from ordering to when our main course arrived. The food was great, all very hot and tasty and the service was very good. Being honest regarding food waits from the offset was something we really appreciated and yet rarely happens.
There aren’t many shops to look in so we then walked around the lakes which was really beautiful other than lots of dogs and although there is signage stating dogs have to be on a lead some people ignored.
One of our group is nervous of dogs was unnerved while we were walking over a wooden bridge as two spaniels came bounding through the four of us two or three times running backwards and forwards to their owners who were walking behind us. Sadly as mentioned by reviewers before the area is littered with dog poo in bags and yet there are bins. Because of this I would have preferred the marina and surrounding walks to be dog free.
We had hoped to try one of the cafes for cake or an ice cream before we left but were all still full from lunch.
Maybe we will visit just for coffee & cake or the cinema next time.Written 28 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We got to see three birds and fly two (owl and Harris hawke) Dave and his team are really knowledgable and friendly and is so clearly passionate about his business. I’d definitely recommend this experience to anyone interested in birds and seeing these beautiful animals up close. We bought our tickets for a 2hr experience from Groupon and it was an absolute steal. A really nice way to pass an afternoon.
I’d firmly recommend good bottom shoes like wellies or walking boots for the field part as it was a bit muddy, and definitely bring a coat.Written 9 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Chris and his staff are friendly and service is excellent, with a very short waiting time.
There is an extensive menu and beautiful home made cakes. There is a great choice of hot drinks, soft drinks and also bottles of beer!
My highlight is the breakfast bap, so delicious and affordable too!Written 29 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - BethanRugeley, UK25 contributionsI absolutely loved this place. For a start, it’s only £4 an adult and I didn’t have to pay for my little one as it’s under 3’s go free. The whole place was just so well looked after. You get a lovely experience with the animals and you’re allowed to get up close and personal which is lovely. The play area for children has 3 huge beautiful sandpits with a big cover over the top for when it’s hot. (We went in a very hot day). There’s lots of things to climb in and out of and to ride and play with for little children. The shop is lovely and sells some really sweet things and the food… wow!

Plenty of places for sitting, fishing and picnics.

- DavidinDorsetNew Milton, UK53 contributionsFresh bitter. Quite delightful.
Went to see an 80's rock band play there. Got my Fish and Chips from next door - which were great and had customers queuing out the door - and then got a pint of foaming best for three quid!
Imagine my disappointment to find that they sell 4" pork pies at the bar too.
This is the future. Pubs are too expensive and lack quality. The Tower is excellent. Nice people, great beer and no telly! Go there.Written 14 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The football was mediocre but entry and exit was a breeze and the facilities were good. - steven w31 contributionsWe love it here - always lots to do.
Kids loved feeding the animals, playing in the soft play (which was surprisingly cool despite the heat) and using the outside facilities too.
We enjoyed the bouncing pillows, crazy golf, go carts, music maze, the tractor ride, the sheep race, stroking a guinea pig, the maze (which yo complete for some sweets or a lollipop) sand art, the foam party and of course the paddling pools - these are a great addition to the site - we felt we were at the beach in the middle of Burton!
There was a lack of tables/chairs for the pool so possibly take your own. People were reluctant to share their tables.
We had a return visit and loved the fact we could come back twice. Our second trip was just as enjoyable as our first.Written 23 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Moving experience- of an often forgotten event. We will return.
Three observations:
1 Topsoil is clay so proper walking boots necessary- and slippy paths.
2 East Staffordshire walk details say park at the Cock inn- but their signs say for customers only- we did park there.
3 Rest of village attractive with great views- area around church is beautiful.Written 2 December 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
