This lake is situated on the way from Guhawati to Shillong. The approach road entails entry fee and parking fees. But very serene feeling

Mawphlang is a village enroute from Shillong to Cherrapunji. The village, like many others have their own small kindoms (Kabilas) with a King & their own sacred forest. However, only Mawphlang has opened up to outsiders. The sacred forest is spread over 78 Hectare of land with everything preserved. You can opt for 30-40 Min half tour or 1:30 Hours full tour (Guide is mandatory). You get to see a nice forest walk and nice trees that have medicinal value and places where the tribals of the village used to perform their rituals. What I liked the most was the beautiful walk in the jungle with slight drizzle and the birds chirping. According to the guide, best time to visit is in Sep-Oct (Post -Monsoon) when you get to see more flowers blooming. Carry raincoat & non-leather shoes if visiting in Pre-monsoon or Monsoon Season.

it was raining when we started from the hotel to visit this fall. fortunately it stopped raining when we reached there. we thus got falls full of water and clean whether for good photography.

the three step waterfall requires going down the steps. The effort however is worth it. It's very beautiful. Good spot for photography.

you can hire traditional dress and click your photographs. These are lovely memories to carry back and hence highly recommended.

Shillong is a worth place to visit if you are coming to north east. Try to cover the trip in monsoon months July and Aug. Second option is winter. Shillong local trip will take 1 to 2 days includes various beautiful parks, churches and museums, cherrapunji will take 1 full day and includes various beautiful peak points, Dwaki area will take 1 full day , attraction here includes , Dwaki river, Bangladesh border, clean village. Try to get stationed in Shillong and visit these places. For cabs and guide you can reach out to drivers in police bazar. I have a contact for a good driver and guide who is economical and very honest. I am sharing his number with his permission.

At the height of about 1970 m above sea level, Shillong Peak is the highest point in Shillong. It offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city, the Himalayas, its waterfalls as well as Bangladesh plains. A telescope is available for tourists to get a bird's eye view.
Trekking up to this semi-circular Shillong Peak is highly recommended , where you can relish some magnificent views of the entire city of Shillong .

The peak is also believed to be the abode of the deity that protects the city. The experience of being here is truly refreshing which makes it bag a spot among the most exciting places to visit in Shillong.

I would say its more of a model village. neat and clean roads with dustbins everywhere. Its an unique experience. If you are visiting Mawlynnong and Dawki along with single root bridge then have your lunch here. There are no other good clean options for lunch anywhere.

A lovely small lake that is very centrally located. It has a wonderful walking path around the lake and is surrounded by beautifully manicured lawns and a lovely garden.

The first few things you notice about the church is the pretty powder blue color, Gothic style of architecture and how huge the place is. This church is located in the Laitumkhrah itself and was like a 5 minute drive from our hotel. This is a Roman Catholic Church and also known as the Cathedral Catholic Church. Dedicated to mother Mary, the Cathedral Church of Mary Help of Christians was built by the Germans in 1913. According to history, the construction of the present shrine was built after the first church got destroyed due to a fire accident in 1936.

The church is built on a sort of high plateau and one has to take a steep short flight of steps or a gradient to reach it. The beautiful church has two levels. Each level had a church. While the lower level is a small chapel that has a prayer hall and is filled with candles and prayer books, the upper level is a huge cathedral with big seating capacity. The upper level church seemed to be for the elite and higher class while the smaller chapel was housing the tribes of this area and less well off class. The church has high arches and stained glass windows which add to its grandeur.

Since it was a Sunday and a mass day, we saw people dressed in their Sunday best waiting in a queue to get into the church. We also saw a board by the entrance to the church which said tourists not allowed inside. Maybe because of it being a mass day, the restrictions on tourist was in force or maybe because of the pandemic the entrance was restricted to outsiders - I am not sure of the reason here. So we didn't try to go in but just walked around. There is a small garden outside where you can sit and enjoy the atmosphere. We could hear the choir inside playing.

    1. Entry Fee : Free
    2. Parking Available : Yes (There is a designated parking space inside the church premise at the first floor). However since we were only spending a short time here, we parked our car on the road itself (pretty empty at that time of the day)
    3. Covid Document Check : No

This can be skipped if you are travelling to Shillong. Nothing mush to do or see here. If you are there in winter then you might relax at the lawns for some time while kids can play around.
