So quiet at night! This old hotel has been lovingly restored. Lots of antique furnishings, but with a few modern things: mini-fridges, satellite TV, WiFi, and microwave in my 2nd-floor king room. The bed was incredibly comfortable. A hallway ice machine was only steps away. The shower was just OK with minimal controls. I wish they would get rid of the plastic cups in the rooms. I hate drinking my wine from a plastic cup! The dining room and saloon are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Housekeeping services on request only. I'll be back!

we were fortunate that a retired teacher from the college was there and added a lot of background and info to our enjoyment of this unique building. I can see spending hours in contemplation or meditation there. going late at night during a full moon would be extraordinary but not sure if the guard is there all night to give you access. we were fortunate that the security guard actually led us to the site as it's not so easy to find

A better than average local history museum with some nice panels done by students from New Mexico Highlands University. Average artifacts for local history, but the story of Theodore Roosevelt and the Roughriders, who held their reunion in Las Vegas for decades, is very interesting, also with some good artifacts in the exhibits. The museum is free, and only takes a few minutes to go through, so you should stop!

The plaza is the jewel of this little old town, an attractive place to stroll through, have a quiet picnic lunch, visit the shops, and take a photo or two. The ghosts of a glorious past are all around the place, the beautiful buildings everywhere here bearing silent witness to a past age where Las Vegas, New Mexico could rival the greatest of the bustling towns of the inland west.

We just walked through the library because of our interest in Carnegie Libraries and their architecture, and were pleased to see that the building is very well maintained. Several patrons were enjoying the light-filled rooms, and the staff was very friendly. I nice visit!

Lots of very interesting items that I had never seen before. Considered purchasing a few, but had no room in the car.

We've been to a number of Wildlife Refuges. The thing that's always fun to us it trying to figure out the variety of birds in the refuge. There are three in the area - Maxwell, Rio Mora and Las Vegas. Contacting the Deputy at Rio Mora, he suggested that at this time Las Vegas might have the best viewing. For a variety of reasons, all three refuges are closed to some extent. Based on his suggestion, we went to Las Vegas. The Refuge is several miles out of town in a flat area with three ponds. The Visitor Center is closed until 2022 for construction. There's a road near each of the ponds. At the first there's a viewing station that provides a good view of the pond. Here we saw a number of birds - probably Canada Geese and ducks. In the distance were a herd of Elk. Even heard one bellow.

We spent most of our time at the second pond where we saw several Sandhill Cranes. They were just standing around near the pond. Just waiting to be photographed.

Glad we went. As with all refuges, patience and expectations drive our satisfaction. We go in expecting to see little. And are really pleased when we see something interesting.

Their selection and pricing are both great. We did not know of them and only came across the store accidentally. We were driving our pick up truck, so we had lots of room to buy larger items and did so. We will go back there as often as possible. A really amazing place in a small out of the way place.

This is a very nice visitor center, with friendly, helpful staff and lots of useful literature. The Depot is very nicely restored, and has good parking too. You can also get on a passenger train here-to Chicago or Los Angeles-but apparently you can't buy a ticket here.

How can you resist water in the desert? This is a relaxing stop if you are in the area. Probably not worth making it a destination if you have to travel very far.

A great way to spend an afternoon if you are in to such things. The Alpacas, Pot Bellied Pigs, Dogs and people really make this a joy.
