My brother and I fished on the Golden Eagle on Aug. 26. This was our first time fishing out of the Belmar Basin. We were undecided between the Golden Eagle and other party boats in the basin, so price ultimately was the deciding factor. Both of us are seniors and the Golden Eagle offered a very competitive senior fare, also the Golden Eagle had a $5 off coupon on their website. We found the Golden Eagle to be a very clean and comfortable fishing boat. Even with a relatively small crowd on the boat, the captain took us for a 1 1/2 hr. ride to find fish. Knowing that the blue fishing has been very slow this summer, we were not very optimistic about catching fish. We did catch 25 small blue fish and 3 cow nose rays between the two of us. Roger, the mate, was very friendly and very helpful all day long. The fishermen on board were also very friendly. Our only criticism was that the captain did not move enough when there was a lull in the action. We noticed other fishing boats around us would move to another stop as soon as the fish stopped biting. They would move 2 or 3 times before we moved once.
