Felt very close to my soul, peaceful and the teachings were remarkable.

The place has changed over the years but the energy around is same. Always positive, people are kind and friendly.

Sacred as it is, I try visiting as much as I could in my life

I have just returned from a 12 day tour of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. I am extremely grateful to have Fen from BODHITREE INDIA TRAVELS for planning, preparing and customising our itinerary and making it the best one possible. We were a group of 4 Family members travelling together. We travelled from Cochin-Munnar-Madurai-Periyar-Allepey- Cochin. We arrived in Cochin not knowing what to expect, but was overwhelmed and surprised by the excellent choice of hotels selected for us by Fen. On arrival in Cochin, we received a warm welcome from Fen, even though it was very early in the morning and he stayed in contact with me throughout our stay there, ensuring our well being and comfort.
A very special and heartfelt thanks goes out to our Driver Sajan. He really made our long journeys easy and comfortable with his smooth and safe driving. he was very cooperative in heeding to our needs and very knowledgeable about the local sightseeing and markets. he was professional and helpful to us all the way. Sajan became our translator, photographer and a friend all rolled into one and we were very sad to say goodbye to him on the last day.

Our tours between the cities were well organised, with lots packed in.

My sincere thanks and gratitude goes to Fen for this amazing experience and memorable tour of Kerala/Tamil Nadu.

I would highly recommend anyone planning a trip to Kerala to partner with Fen - BODHITREE INDIA TRAVELS and make their holiday a wonderful one.

It huge ! Worth going to.

The place is a crowded as it it one of the main attractions after the mahabodhi Temple. The statue is 80ft tall and grans. Next to it are a few temples.

The only issue around there is parking. The place is congested buses going and the tuk-tuk going to and fro, some parked.

But all in all must visit

Root is an oasis in chaotic Bodh Gaya. The rooms and meals are simple, clean, perfectly adequate. Their website is accurate about what facilities are on offer and what aren’t. I attended a week-long course here and would be hard-pressed to change anything about the experience.

Royal Bhutan Monastery is a wonderful Buddhist monastery located in Bodhgaya. The King of Bhutan got this monastery constructed as a tribute to Lord Buddha. The monastery has golden coloured tall statue of Buddha inside. It features important instances from the life of Gautam Buddha in the form of clay carvings which is attractive. The entire complex is nicely maintained.

Dungeswari hill, also known as Mahakala caves, are situated around 20 km away from Bodh Gaya, needs hired vehicle for visit. Our cab drive dropped us at the footsteps of the hill. There is some hiking from the road to the caves, which could be tiring. Alternatively, motor bikes are also available for to and fro transfer to the caves @ Rs. 100, though from dropping point, there would be some marginal hiking. The cave houses idol of Dungeswari and Lord Buddha. Lord Buddha is believed to have meditated in this place for six years before he went to Bodh Gaya to achieve enlightenment. The entry door to the caves is narrow and small, however sufficient space is there inside the caves. When we visited, there was limited crowd.

A serene and quite temple, the decor of which provides a archetypical example of Japanese temple construction (at least as I understand it). Please note that as of February 2023 the daily chanting and meditation sits are no longer happening, which is unsurprising in this late/post-pandemic period. Nonetheless, it seems that you are still free to come and do your own meditation sits if you want.

Cankamana is one of the most sacred shrines, situated towards the northern side of the Mahabodhi Temple. It is considered to be the pathway that was used by Buddha during his third week of meditation. This is also considered the spot where Buddha practiced walking meditation, and thus it is known as Cankamana. The spot denotes the footsteps of Buddha carved out as lotuses in Black stone. These footsteps are decorated beautifully with flowers. The devotees visit the spot and chant in praise of Buddha, which creates a soothing atmosphere. We visited the place in the evening after the sunset, the pathway was decorated with flowers and candles, which appeared to be very pleasing and serene.

It is a Thai temple situated at Bodhgaya. The temple has an attractive architecture with a white coloured Buddha statue sitting in open air. When we visited Bodh Gaya in late March’22, entry to the temple was closed and hence visitors could only view the temple from outside.

The holy lake is situated within the complex of Mahabodhi temple. It is said that once Buddha began meditating and an unusual rain descended. However, the mighty king of serpents, Mucalinda, came from beneath the earth and protected Buddha with his hood. A statue of Buddha meditating under the protection of Mucalinda is built in the middle of the lake. Noticed several colourful festoons tied nearby, it is said that the devotees across the globe visit and tie such festoons once their vows are fulfilled.
