What travellers are saying
- ArunDelaware, OH24 contributionsHad an awesome time with my 3 year old at the museum. He had a full day of fun. We will visit this play every year with kids. I'd recommend families to bring snacks or even meals as we didn't find many options at the cafeteria.Written 21 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John WLostant, IL2,724 contributionsCame to the area for the weekend and visiting the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was definitely on top of the list. While I remember watching the Brickyard 400 and Indianapolis 500 on TV it's quite apparent how massive the track is driving up to it. The museum is nice and had plenty of cars on display (currently under renovations but tours are running). The track tour is definitely worth it as you get to ride the entire circuit plus get out by the home stretch and kiss the bricks/walk on them. Definitely a must stop even if you're not necessarily a racing fan!!Written 25 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KenOrient, Ohio453 contributionsIt was a beautiful day at the zoo. They have a very nice conservatory/garden at the entrance you can opt to go through. Pretty expansive grounds. My only negative is it's a little steep in the admission range for zoos, especially for the Midwest. I have no idea how they are financed outside of admission but I do find it interesting that one zoo can be $4 and one can be $30+. Huge lot but you still pay $10 additional for parking.
Indianapolis Zoo stands out for its primate habitats, specifically chimpanzee and orangutan. While I'm not into primates much when I visit a zoo, except gorillas, lemurs and tamarins, I was impressed with these two complexes.
That said, I spent most of my time in the Africa Plains with Jabari and his mom and aunties. If you got elephants, I'm there. Aside from the matriarchal group, I enjoyed watching Kedar and hearing the fate of his swivel log. One powerful dude!
I enjoyed the variety of creative habitats and interactions with staff. Very engaging. Nice dolphin presentation and elephant training demonstration.
I purchased the access band and rode the little coaster, the train and the Sky Line. Reasonable extra charge.
If I lived in Indy, I'd be a member but probably won't make the drive over for another visit.Written 25 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The Salvador Dali special exhibition was wonderful and the watercolors by him - wow.Written 30 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Scott BWantagh, NY709 contributionsWatched the Colts/Dolphins game, and my rating is not based on the game. The stadium was large and roomy, not overly loud which really surprised me. They had the "window" open on one end of the stadium, but not the roof when we visited.
The beer available was very limited, only Bud Light and their related brands. No specialty micro beers at all. Food options were very basic... burger, hot dogs, popcorn, etc and prices were fair for a stadium. They do not accept cash at the vending areas or the people serving in the aisles.
The stadium was clean in all areas, including bathrooms. The lines for food and restrooms were not long. The steps getting to seats were somewhat steep (especially when we were in the very top row).Written 25 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. What makes this special is that the majority of the items in the house are the original items used by the Harrisons. The guided tour was well worth the price, and the 90 minutes of time invested!Written 10 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Not only were we able to view artwork made by individuals of the First Nations but there was an extensive exhibition of artwork about individuals of the First Nations. It is a must ..... it opened our eyes to viewing these amazing individuals in a completely different prespective.Written 19 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Letti O18 contributionsOn a road trip with my dog, this was a great way to see the cityscape of Indianapolis and also take my dog for a walk along the river & canal. The park is beautifully kept up with plenty of space to explore. I am very happy I chose this as one of our pitstops! I would plan an hour if you want to take your time walking. The zoo, NCAA Hall of Champions, and other museums are also located in the park. If you are also visiting any of those sites, then plan on being there for the day.Written 5 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Emily MUnited States1,377 contributionsThis is an impressive memorial! We got there too late in the day to see anything inside, but it's quite something to look at outside. It's part of a large veterans park in Indianapolis. Recommend going to see the memorial and park even if it's closed.Written 2 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Don HHollywood, FL43 contributionsWasn’t sure the museum would hold the interest of my 9 year old but it sure did. The exhibits are often interactive which hold your attention. Not just for kids but adults also. I caught a few grown men trying to chop would like Abe Lincoln at one interactive exhibit. The museum starts off with prehistoric times and moves into the present. Even if you don’t have kids it is entertaining. We spent 5 hours there before strolling the canal walk.
Tip - Go down the ramp and park in underground garage. They will validate your ticket so you only pay $4 for the whole day. This museum is part of ASTC which means they will honor your local museum’s annual pass for reciprocal free entry if you are an annual museum pass holder. My Frost Museum ( Florida) pass was honored.Written 14 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. With its height, though, we could still see it well. Hoping construction ends soon!Written 2 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
