- pyegirlRome, Italy1,402 contributionsThis is the place to go if you are in the market for new, high end kitchen appliances or remodel fixtures and you want to see them and talk to peopel who know the differences between all the diff models/products. For those of us who live in small markets and can't actually see the actual appliances and are left to guess with either sales people who don't know squat (eg. Best Buy or small appliance stores that hire your college student on vacation), this is the place to go to really shop.
Make an appointment with all the show rooms and have them tell you about their products. They don't actually sell you the product, but they are very knowledgeable. Thermador, Bosch, Miele, Wolf, Monogram, Dakor, Waterworks, you name it, it's there.

Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and there was a very sparse crowd (good for us, but not for the merchants) and the food court was an excellent selection of cuisines. If you go, you must try the TopGolf Swing Suite (6th floor). - Bee80204Denver, CO3,902 contributionsFancying a walk in a luxury department store, I entered 900 North Michigan Shops when I saw the Bloomingdale’s sign. Venturing into the beauty section I sampled the lipsticks with help from the sales associate and took advantage of the free gift offer and made a purchase. I love MAC cosmetics, especially their lipsticks so I was excited that I could indulge my weakness.
The rest of the store was just as pleasant to walk through and admire the merchandise. There were lovely displays including a flower cart where a fragrance purchase qualifies you for a lovely bouquet. - Edie S28 contributionsThe Thorne Miniature Rooms were absolutely a highlight of my first visit to Chicago and, in fact, one of the most enjoyable museum exhibits I have ever experienced.
They are AMAZING!!
If this is the type of thing that appeals to you, then you probably already know it. I don't suppose it would be everyone's thing. But if you enjoy interior design (especially English style), history, crafts, whimsy, imagination, or tiny, fascinating things, you will not be disappointed!!
There are 68 rooms in this collection (Several more are located elsewhere.). They are wonderfully displayed in framed boxes set into the wall, with thoughtful lighting that contributes so much to their appearance.
I visited with my teenage son, and we were both enchanted. It makes for a good mall experience and contribution to the shopping scene along the Magnificent Mile. - Taylor BChicago, IL8,751 contributionsNative Chicagoans, like me, remember when State State in downtown Chicago was known as The Great Street, before there was a Magnificent Mile on the north side of the Chicago River. It was the street of Marshall Field's, the Chicago Theater, the Palmer House and Carson, Pirie, Scott and Company. Today, Carson's is known as the Sullivan Center, a 943,944-square-foot, three-building complex that houses the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and national retailer Target. Located at 1 South State Street, at the corner of East Madison Street, the structure is mostly known for its architecture. It was designed by Louis Sullivan in 1899 for a retail firm. Another famous architect, Daniel Burnham, also did work on the building. It is remarkable for its steel-framed construction, which allowed a dramatic increase in window area created by bay-wide windows, which in turn allowed for the greatest amount of daylight into the building interiors. The design was the first use of what became known as the Chicago window. At street level, the broad expanses of glass allowed for larger displays of merchandise to outside pedestrian traffic, creating the idea of the sidewalk showcase. Sullivan designed the unique corner entry to be seen from both State and Madison. The attractive ornamentation above the entrance gave the store an elegant and unique persona important to the building's competition with neighboring stores, including Marshall Field's. - jgbtravelsLouisville, KY3,445 contributionsThis place is the king of mid century finds. Truly a gem in Chicago. There’s a lot of cool stuff here, however, bargains are hard to come by. Still it’s a great place to browse and marvel at these finds. Staff is friendly and it’s well maintained compared to other antique malls we have been to. It’s metered street parking on Broadway and close in on the side streets. On the plus side you are less than a block away from Ann Sather’s on Granville.
