Steep, challenging, often crowded, it's a great place to get the heart rate up and be in gorgeous nature, steps from town.
At the edge of Boulder, this user-friendly park has levels of trails to suit all tastes and abilities.

After reading about the hassles of getting to Breckenridge, Winter Park, etc. on a busy weekend, we were a bit disheartened.

St. Mary's Glacier Idaho Springs 17.0 km away
#1 of 6 Nature & Parks in Idaho Springs
There was plenty of room around the lake to relax and take in nature’s beauty, and an enormous open space to venture up the snow-covered mountain with even less company.
You can drive most of the way up the mountain and park ($5 parking fee) and walk straight up about 30 minutes and you are treated to the most gorgeous view.
Eldorado Canyon State Park Eldorado Springs 17.9 km away

The park has a fascinating history, is great for hikers, has an artesian spring-fed built in 1905 - and is a draw to rock climbers of all skill levels.
Eldorado State Park is beautiful, from easy hiking, to picnicking, to the scenery, and it is so close to Boulder, even a long lunch break is doable.
Eldorado Canyon Boulder 18.4 km away

Unlike the National Park with its daunting crowds, this one is very approachable to duffers in cars to intrepid rock climbers to those who like to hike to who want to dink in the stream to those who love visitors...
Wow! What a great day trip to see great rock formations and a wonderful river running through the middle of the park.
Flatirons Boulder 18.7 km away
#1 of 36 Nature & Parks in Boulder
I'd highly recommend the Flatirons summit trail that leads you to the very top overlooking both the Boulder Valley and the Rockies as part of Rocky Mountain National Park!
I would highly recommend pairing the sightseeing with a hike around Chautauqua park, or even better, seeing the free science and weather exhibits at NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research).

Flagstaff Mountain Boulder 19.3 km away

A short drive from the center of Boulder, this park has magnificent views, quiet, meditative trails, sweet spots to picnic and relax.
I nice short drive up a windy mountain road to the amphitheater and the park for some spectacular views of the City of Boulder.
