- Sarah GHarrogate, UK1,488 contributionsProbably the best place we visited in Silicon Valley in terms of things to look at, and free. We did a self guided drive with commentary, which was a great way to see the area, and this was one of the stops.Written 7 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stephanie ASeattle, WA15 contributionsIf you have tickets to a game, the price should be included in your tickets to see this place, or at least discounted. It was very interesting for the 49er fan in my husband. It ends in you going into the store which thankfully he found nothing he couldn't buy on line for less, pretty pricy items.Written 7 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Marta EEl Paso, TX857 contributionsSo I walked here in about 10 minutes! It is only open Tuesday nights and Saturday. It was nice to see that there are still alot of older history buffs that get a kick out of building toy trains and constructing a miniature city/country. I recognized the era from the late 50s or 60s cuz that is when I was born..Ed and the other older men volunteers knew their area train and railroad history very well..They also confirmed what I already knew that it is getting harder and harder to find toy trains. I also observed that they are very passionate about their museum and it shows!
There is a small library with books and magazines about trains, but I was informed that I could NOT check out any books since I am NOT a member of the museum. However the older gentleman said I was welcome to read any material in the comfortable chair. He also went out of his way to tell me a little bit of history of the building! HE stated that the museum is a combination of 2 buildings and the part where the library and bathrooms are is older than the museum area
I was glad that there was a coke machine in this little gem cuz it was humid.I also left a donation since these men take such a great effort to keep this little museum gem open. After my visit, I went outside to take the Caltrain to downtown San Jose!Written 15 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Housed in a classic railroad station next to new Caltrain station. There is convenient (a limited amount of) free parking in front of the museum. One of the coolest things (well maybe only to me since I had one of these on my model railroad layouts when I was a kid) was the Harriman standard switching tower which is located a little north of the main museum (on the other side of the Caltrain station). Only open limited hours check website before going. Free (donations accepted)Written 25 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
