We had a great experience on the Monterey Bay. It was my 8th wedding anniversary and what better way to celebrate our lives than in the presence of Gods amazing creations. We saw Humpback whales, Dolphins, a family of Killer whales eating lunch and doing a really cool swim by right below our feet almost within touching range!!!! We learned a lot about marine biology from the Captain and crew who were super friendly guides. These people live to encounter the whales - its not a job for them but a passion that was so obvious. We are eternally grateful for our experience.

We had a great time with the crew of Fast Raft. I really enjoyed being on a boat with only 4 other passengers, as it made the whole experience more personal. We went in mid-October and saw Orcas and humpbacks along with sea otters and more sea lions than you could count. The two crew members has a lot of enthusiasm and knowledge about the whales that made the whole experience that much more enjoyable.

An absolutely spectacular wildlife experience! On our tour we saw mother whales with her calves and several large pods of humpback whales. At least nine in their natural habitat. Seals, birds and other marine life abound. Indeed - the show of a lifetime!

A few recommendations for sightseers in order to have a great time on the boat.

Take anti-nausea medication at least a half hour prior to boarding (if you go with Dramamine on the boat it’s already too late).
Eat light or very little prior to boarding. (Trust me on this!)
Be prepared for the cold, getting wet and possible sea sickness. The waters get choppy and it is a long ride to get to where the wildlife swim. Take blankets, rain ponchos, & ginger candies for your stomach, to be safe.
We took these precautions and seemed to be the only family unaffected by the waves.

Lastly, bring the best camera you own with you for pictures. I was impressed by the picture opportunities on the tour.

If you’re on the fence to book - don’t second-guess. Just go!!!

This is run by some great people - from check in to the people on the boat - all were fun, helpful and wanted us to have a great experience. Definitely bring layers -it is COLD out there. We went in July and it is windy and cold out on the ocean. The larger boat (bigger than the other companies) really was nice and had a great indoor seating area to warm up and just relax (along with snacks/coffee/hot chocolate to purchase). We followed the advice of others and took some Dramamine that morning - no problems for any of my family of five. We followed one whale for a bit too long, but then they moved to another area and we saw some more humpbacks. It's nature, so no guarantees on what you will see, so I think it's important to go into your trip accepting that and just enjoy the adventure. Great experience!

After all that Covid lock-up, our company with 17 employees was planning a company outing. We narrowed it down to get out into the Monterey Bay. Originally, we hoped to do a teambuilder sailing cruise. Something exciting. We called several sailing companies, but we found out that sailboats only take up between 6-11 people max. Then we called Monterey Sailing & Boat Charters. This company only specializes in private charters.
It’s the only company in Monterey that caters to larger groups. They offer sailing too, but since we were a group of 17, we had to go on a larger motorized vessel that carries up to 49 people, which was fine with us. The owner assured us that this was the best choice, since we were able to gout out a lot further into the bay and also see whales! The booking was fast and easy. They have a flat rate for up to 20 people. It was a $1500 flat see. No extra taxes or costs.

We were also able to bring anything for food and drinks. Alcohol was also absolutely no problem.
We had to board after 3:30, since the boat hs being used for public whale watching cruises throughout the day. We were greeted by the captain and crew and got onto the boat. There was a lot of outside space and even inside space with tables and soft benches incase someone wanted to sit down, get warm, and for comfortably eating our food.

The trip was amazing. First we saw all the harbor life. The captain slowed the boat down and explained all the wildlife. Then we were on our way into the vast bay. After we past Lovers Point, the captain took us past Point Pinos, and we were suddenly surrounded by tons of dolphins. A few minutes later, we saw humpback whales. The entire two-hour trip was amazing! I recommend a two-hour charter. Some in our group were glad to be back on land. A three hour tour would have been too long. We were very happy that we all came back with a lot of pictures of this event. I highly recommend Monterey Sailing & Boat Charters!
