Great experience to view the city for free from the roof of City Hall. A local man informed of this free sight. Staff friendly in the city hall and taking two express elevators to the Tom Bradbury room provided sights of the whole of the city. Ensure you take id and this is an amazing experience. Don’t forget to look at the rotunda on the 3rd floor as well

This is the center of downtown LA with the city hall and library, and now the big theaters. A redevelopment area that has matured.

This is a building that you will likely only see from the exterior; however, you will not miss it on the Old Plaza. Its prominence speaks to it history. It is the first and oldest luxury hotel in LA and when it was built in 1870 it was the largest building in LA if not California. It was built by Pio Pico, the last Mexican Governor of California. It is a beautiful building in its color and symmetrical design. It symbolized that LA was not a Pacific town but an emerging American city at the cusp before the railroad, oil and Hollywood would propel LA to what it is today.

The LADWP John Ferraro Building is an iconic and historic building in the civic center of downtown Los Angeles. Of interest is that it was designed by the firm of Albert C. Martin, whose office is also responsible for classic architectural designs in civic buildings throughout Southern California, in particular, the Los Angeles County Music Center, located directly across from the Department of Water and Power Building. The lobby level of the Building is restricted to the public, but by registering for free as a visitor, the public is allowed to enter and view the interesting displays, scale models, and historical panels that describe the history of water and electrical power to Los Angeles. Visitors are required to have valid photo ID to register with the security desk just inside the main entrance. The exterior of the lobby is surrounded by a striking reflection pool, with good views of the civic center from that vantage point, a location that is frequently used by photographers, news media broadcast, and even appears in movies, such as the movie Inception, which features the area processed with CGI effects to achieve the surreal appearances in the movie.

We had a short time to wander around Downtown LA and stumbled across the old Courthouse building adjacent to the City Hall. With nothing better to do we stepped inside and were very warmly welcomed by the very friendly security guards who showed us around the art deco entrance hall and invited us to tour the public parts of the building. The elevators were ornate art deco design. This is well worth a short visit if you have a spare 30 minutes- perhaps combine it with a trip to City Hall which is just across the road

Fire Station 112 is a active fire station for land and sea. The station contains a docked inside Fire Boat that you can view from the outside. Also docked outside is another fire boat. The fire boats are to be used in the Log Beach and San Pedro Harbors.

There is a memorial there for a fire fighter to include large information signs posted for you to read and understand. The building is not open to the general public but you can see inside. This is worth you time to see and very interesting.
