    Apr 2023.

I did the above over 6 days as I didn't have enough time.
Rigzin organised the trip and was meticulous in meeting my needs.
Jigme my guide together with Kim the driver were excellent and I could not have any one better. Both were extremely thoughtful and helpful and went out of their way to please me. Bhutan is beautiful and the people so friendly. Tigers nest the highlight demanding as it was especially for me having just returned from trekking to EBC in Nepal is something I would not have missed - its a sight to behold.
BTC is a well organised, coordinated organisation well run and would recommend them to anyone intending to visit Bhutan. I certainly would if were to visit Bhutan again.

This was an excellent tour in everyway. Truly the trip of a lifetime. Most notably, in my case, I contacted Bhutan Acorn on a wednesday and they had a full tour booked and arranged for me for arrival on Saturday. My plans were completely last minute, as I was in Bangladesh prior.

After booking, I didn't have to plan a single thing. I was met at the airport, and all accommodations and meals were taken care of. The private mini-suv was new, clean, and reliable. Accommodations were top notch and all the buffet meals were very tasty!

Mr Tashi is an excellent and knowledgeable guide, who passionately shared the rich history of the sites we visited. He even made it a point to snap several photos from our trip. He had answers to all my questions. and, he's just an all around cool guy to spend the day with!

From the moment I reached out to Bhutan Acorn Tours & Travel to inquire about a potential trip to Bhutan, Mr. Karma was extremely responsive, accommodating, and helpful. We had all sorts of information we needed to ensure our trip was successful.

Once we arrived in Bhutan, we were greeted by our personal guide (Mr. Tashi) and our driver (Mr. Nidup). Both gentlemen were with us, and only us, for the duration of our trip. Both are extremely personable and knowledgeable. We learned so much and laughed a lot. Mr. Tashi always ensured every restaurant or host accommodated my lactose intolerance. They both ensured we always had enough to eat and drink throughout our visit and made us as comfortable as possible throughout.

When an unexpected rainstorm hit us on our first day, Mr. Tashi recommended we change to a different hike/monastery since it would be less steep and muddy, which resulted in us getting an unexpected blessing/ritual bath from the lama (head monk) of the monastery. We saw so many amazing views and learned a ton about Buddhism and Bhutanese history and culture. We ended up changing our itinerary on the fly to exclude the Bumdrak Trek and camping for health reasons, which Mr. Tashi accommodated without complaint. We chose instead to trek up to Tiger's Nest and had the chance to meditate in one of the temple rooms for 30 minutes undisturbed. It allowed us to reflect on life’s journey that ultimately lead us here, the culmination of years of healing and personal growth. I'd highly recommend starting the trek early. We started around 6am and were pretty much the only people on the entire trek up. It made the trek so much more spiritual and personal for us. Mr. Tashi and Mr. Nidup provided us with their own personal trekking poles to use.

Some tips when visiting Bhutan: pack toilet paper with you as many of the public and/or rural restrooms do not have toilet paper, have hand sanitizer available as many also do not have soap, and get into hiking shape to truly enjoy the experience.

Bottom line...we absolutely loved Bhutan and plan to return. We would definitely go with Bhutan Acorn Tours & Travel again and highly recommend you check them out too. Ask for Mr. Tashi and Mr. Nidup if possible!

Bhutan is always a mystical country to us and finding information on how to visit Bhutan is scarce in the Web. However with Bhutan Inbound, we found our visit hassle free. Deki was very helpful and very responsive throughout the tour planning and visa application before the trip. A tour of 6 days 5 nights was planned. She also helped us to get discounted SDF fee immediately after the government of Bhutan offers 50% discount on the fee, even though we had applied our visa.
On the first day arriving Bhutan, our tour guide Phurba and the driver Chimi, welcomed us at the airport arrival area. Immediately we already felt the kindness and hospitality offered. We stayed in Thimphu for two nights, another night in Punakha and two nights in Paro. With our customized tour from Bhutan Inbound, we really enjoy the whole trip. Thimphu was busy due the festival week, but we were able to witness their biggest annual celebration and the experience was unique. Punakha greeted us with golden paddy fields and countryside hospitality of Bhutanese people. Paro offered us and unforgettable 6 hours hike to Tiger Nest monastery.
Phurba is knowledgeable about everything in Bhutan, and his guide in English is clear and rich. He brings out the spirit of Bhutan and the essence of Buddhism whenever we visited a monastery or a temple. He also arranged every request we had made and took care of all the hotels check-in. He is also very flexible with the tour activities as well. Chimi meanwhile is very mindful when driving and keep our safety the top priority.
Bhutan itself is truly exceptional and this is among the top in dozens of countries I have visited. Bhutan has preserved very well the traditions, the wilderness and the centuries old Dzong and Lhakhangs.
I will again return to Bhutan Inbound and the Phurba-Chimi team in the future to visit the eastern part of Bhutan.

  • Dema and Kencho met me at Paro airport coming in from India and I was immediately put at ease with their friendliness and Kencho's careful driving through the mountainous roads in a very comfortable, warm and solid SUV car.

Unfortunately I became very ill the next day (something I had eaten in India)and everyone, Dema, Kencho, Karma, Lhendup and the hotel staff were so caring and attentive and offered to take me to hospital. Luckily I was a lot better after a good sleep and some hydration salts they gave me. I felt comforted that I was in good hands being on my own in a foreign country.

The rest of the trip was amazing and I didn't feel that I had missed anything seeing monastaries, dzongs, a museum, shopping, lunch at a farmhouse, attempting archery and the beautiful scenary. The weather was beautiful and sunny during the day and the hotel rooms were warm and comfy at night. They made sure I was going at a pace I was happy with not feeling 100%.

I feel that I made some beautiful friends in Bhutan and I would love to return for a festival and do the Tiger Nest hike.

I definitely would recommend Acorn Tours who genuinely go above and beyond from the visa and flight bookings to caring for you as a person.

Thank you Dema, Kencho, Karma and Lhendup.

We did the Tiger’s Nest hike with guide Lobsang Nima, who was wonderful. Swallowtail was dependable and very pleasant. Lobsang was a great guide and answered all our questions, providing a great hike up to Tiger’s Next and then a tour of the monasteries at the mountaintop. Swalllowtail also provided a delicious Bhutanese lunch after the hike, which was the perfect end to the one-day hike. Would highly recommend Swallowtail and Lobsang for any/all adventures in Bhutan!

This was the TRIP OF A LIFETIME 🙌

Bhutan was such an unknown country to me before I decided to visit, and I am so glad I took the leap of faith!!

From the moment I reached out to Bhutan Acorn, Karma Phuntsho was extremely responsive and thorough on guiding me through the tour itinerary, accommodations, and visa requirements.

Feel free to be direct with Karma in telling you EXACTLY what you want from your tour and he will customize a tour JUST FOR YOU 😃. I was originally going to go for 7 days and extended my trip an additional day (before I got my visa) and he made these additions to the itinerary just for me!!

Now, on to the tour itself….

Karma told me later on that he tries to make his tours private whenever possible. This was unknown to me before booking, so I was extremely surprised and happy to find my 8 day tour would be just me and my tour guide and driver. (SHOUTOUT TO NIDUP & NORBU - the best in the game! 🙌🙌)

BHUTAN IS A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY 🇧🇹
As the only carbon negative country in the world, the air is the purest out there. You will also be surrounded by breathtaking mountain ranges and rare wildlife (birds, monkeys, etc.)

I felt extremely taken care of and can now call Nidup and Norbu great friends of mine 😃

    As for the driver…

Nidup was such a funny and outgoing guy. He really knows how to turn up the energy on some of these long road trips (hint: he loves rock music 🎸). He is also completely willing to speak his mind and put your best interests at heart (—he will make sure you get fair deals at stores)

    As for the tour guide…

Norbu is a young and bright guy. He knew sooooo much about Bhutan and Buddhism. I could ask him anything and he knew it right away. He is also a very fast hiker (so if you want to save some time, he is your guide) Norbu is also an amazing photographer!! He happily offered to take professional photos of me on one of the days and edit them himself!! The photos attached to this review are from him.

All in all, Bhutan was no mistake. It is a complete blessing. And it is a place I will most definitely come back to many times over (….But Nidup and Norbu must visit me in the USA too!!)

To whoever is reading this, enjoy your travels!! ✈️ 🇧🇹 ❤️

We are a family from Israel, just got back from 10 amazing days in Bhutan, after we planned to visit Bhutan with Swallowtail already in March 2020, and then COVID came...
Swallowtail team made sure that I got all my money back, and that I am smiling.
The owner Tashi and her team kept in touch with me in the last 3 years, and once the borders got open, we immediately made plans to make this tour happen.
All of us (parents and teenagers) were fascinated by Bhutan, its culture, its smiling friendly people, the Paro festival (WOW!), the monasteries and nunneries in both the cities as well as remote locations, the relaxed atmosphere, the beauty of nature while doing short treks, and how everything was organized.
A big BRAVO to our guide KD and the driver Jimmy who took good care of us for 10 days with any request about sites, food, change of plans, teaching us Archery, and were even attentive to our special crazy requests (e.g. buying a Drum and transfer it to us from another location).
    Swallowtail is highly recommended.

I have just finished my tour Essence of Bhutan. We followed the program and everything went smoothly without any problem. The guide and the driver were well prepared, very kind and helpful (I was surprised I could do all the hikes without a backpack because the guide was keeping my stuff in his one). The hotels were good (although all of them could do a better job in room maintenance) and food was abundant (and my guide took care of no coriander for me). My favourite places are Tiger's Nest, Lungchutse and Punakha Dzong

Every since we interacted with Pelden on email, we had a feeling that we had chosen the right people to organise our Bhutan tour. We qant d to go for the Dagala thousand lakes trek which Pelden planned for us initially but due to heavy snowfall before our trek we had to opt for the Druk Trail Trek. Whether it was this change, or the last min change when our Druk air flight from Paro to Delhi got cancelled and we had to return to India by road, Sherab and Pelden made sure that we were never inconvenienced.
Our guide through out our stay in Bhutan, during the local sightseeing and the trek, was very knowledgeable, always smiling and very cooperative. He always made sure that we were comfortable. A special mention of our cook and his assistant Sonam whosw culinary skills made sure that we experience the best of Bhutanese cuisine even at high altitudes in the wilderness and when it was snowing heavily.
Overall, a trip worth repeating with BTC. Thank you Sherab and Pelden of BTC 🙏

I am one of four women who shared a vision of going to Bhutan. My friends and I would be considered “active seniors”. We wrote to a few companies and Bhutan Acorn was the first to respond. Bhutan Acorn continued to be responsive to every question and request we made. We were impressed by Karma P’s (the owner’s) efficiency, attention to detail as well as his patience.

We traveled in April 2023 to many sites and hiked many trails, ending in the Taktsang hike (Tiger’s Nest). Our guide, Thinley S, and our driver, Sonam D, deserve special recognition. As cultural ambassadors, they represented the best of Bhutan - knowledgeable, thoughtful, kind and good-humored.

Throughout the hikes and treks, our guide made sure that we were safe, that we got food that was compatible with our taste and that we were comfortable in our hotels. Our driver safely got us to our various destinations despite some tricky road conditions and made thoughtful gestures like getting cough drops when one of us developed a cough.

I should mention that, by my own fault, I sustained a wrist injury that required some medical visits. Thinley, Sonam and Karma did a lot of problem-solving so that my friends could continue enjoying their day while I saw the doctors. In this spontaneous situation (that is, out of the planned itinerary), I was touched by their personal and professional attention and care.

In terms of advice, I would say be sure to bring trekking poles, stay hydrated on the trails, be respectful to the land, the temples and those who guide and serve you. And don’t miss taking a stone bath!

All in all, I believe you will be very pleased if you travel with Bhutan Acorn. I highly recommend them.

If you are considering traveling to Bhutan I would highly recommend Bhutan Swallowtail!

My husband and I had a marvelous trip thanks to Singye, who helped plan and coordinate our trip before we arrived, and our fabulous guide, Tshering, and driver, Jigme.

After having to cancel our initial trip to Bhutan in April 2020, Singye helped us plan this trip on short notice and answered all of our questions with the upmost promptness, kindness, and thoroughness.

From the moment we arrived in Bhutan, Tshering and Jigme brought to life the magic of the Buddhist Kingdom through their personal stories and through our visits to important spiritual sites, challenging and beautiful hikes, sightseeing in Thimphu and Paro, frequent photography detours, shopping for special mementos, and sharing many delicious meals together. They incorporated thoughtful surprises for us throughout the trip and were incredibly knowledgeable, compassionate, funny and entertaining. We shared so many laughs together and it felt like we were old friends!

    Thank you for everything!

My daughter and I recently enjoyed six wonderful nights in Bhutan guided by Pema Tenzin and his driver Kinga. The two young men were perfect hosts. Informative and considerate and a pleasure to travel with.

My daughter had made all the arrangements with Singye who ably assisted her through the red tape necessary to make the trip.

Highlights of our visit for me were the Festival in Punakha. The colour and pageantry were stunning and we also visited a nunnery and listened to afternoon prayers. The singing and the music were superb.

We were well entertained and challenged throughout the tour. Walking over the longest suspension bridge for which we received a special blessing and hoisting our prayer flags on another bridge, culminating with the trek to the Tiger's Nest, which my daughter did.

There were so many highlights. We both found travel in Bhutan immensely enjoyable. A true travel experience.

Thank you so much Pema and Kinga and staff at Swallowtail
