- Michael SMississauga, Canada63 contributionsWe went on this hike on New year's day, and the weather was spectacular for us. We arranged a cab from the taxi stand near the tourist port. Price was 30,000 pesos each way per car. The trailhead is about 15 minutes from Ushuaia centre, and we arranged our pickup time with our driver. We gave ourselves 4 hours for the return trip, and it worked out perfectly for us, we had enough time for trekking each way, plus a relaxing lunch at the laguna. There are only a few places along the trail that there is cell service, so be prepared. This is a very popular hike, so if you don't get an early start you will be hiking with a lot of people, and the laguna area will fill up by mid day. The trail is muddy in many areas, so be prepared! The hike is very manageable, there is only one relatively steep section, just after the beaver dam, but after that, the only difficulty is a rocky section along the river, closer to the end. You can also do this hike using the minibuses, but the prices are per person, and the scheduled dropoff and pickup times are limited, so we chose cabs.
I don't feel it's necessary to organise a tour to do this hike. Wear good shoes, take a lunch, and water, and you're good.Written 9 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Frank YRockingham, Australia74 contributionsThe blue lake was soo blue. This is caused by the minerals washed down into the water. Often copper as there are many deposits in the area. A helicopter fligt over these was a great idea.Written 23 April 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Dave48838Greenville, MI684 contributionsWhile shopping in town, we ducked into this church for a little rest. It is right on the main street and appears to be the biggest church in town. The peaceful interior invites a time of prayer and reflection. The interior is fairly simple and includes some local craftsmanship. After our prayers, we stopped at the little store. It has a nice selection of religious books and items at a very reasonable price.Written 24 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - paulvoisard6 contributionsHaving read some of the other reviews for this activity, and wanting to do something a little more out of the box while in Ushuaia, we decided to plan a day climbing Alvear, and having read the reviews of Guias del Sur, we contacted them to be our guide on this climb. We were not disappointed. In fact, this day turned into the best day of our trip. From my initial contact with Sebastian at Guias, everything went absolutely smoothly. He prepared us for everything we needed, and provided us with anything we were lacking for the climb (ropes, helmet, ice axe, etc...)
This is not a very technical climb, but does require a good amount of stamina and sure footedness, and will require the climbers to be in relatively good shape. It is a full day climb, taking anywhere from 8-12hrs to complete round trip depending on your fitness level. That said, Sebastian was an amazing guide and always made safety our number one priority and moved at a comfortable pace for the group, and was just an overall really good guy.
The views from the top of the mountain are spectacular as it is one of the tallest mountains in the area, so you get unobstructed views of the entire area. It is not an easy day climbing, but you will thank yourself once you reach the top. One of a kind experience.Written 13 December 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sanddsheppardUniversity Heights, OH360 contributionsNice walk along the waterfront to this lagoon, near the Ushuaia sign. It looks like the plan is to improve the walkway there were pallets of pavers along one side. This is good birding spot for ducks, Herons, a few shorebirds and gulls.Written 25 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
