The tour of the El Zanjon De Granados was very cool and a unique look into the city's history, told through the history of this building. Once a mansion owned by a wealthy family, and later turned into tenement housing, this home housed underground tunnels to funnel the strong local rivers flowing through.

Lucia (spelling? hope I got it right!) was an EXCELLENT tour guide. She is very passionate and knowledgeable about the history of the building and site, and taught us all about its original construction, ownership, and eventual restoration and renovation. She also gave us a picture as to what life was like in the early days of Buenos Aires in the surrounding neighborhood. She was wonderful and gave us a thorough tour at a very nice pace so we could stop and take photos and look around. I highly recommend this one.

A nicely arranged exhibition but a little hard to know the flow of movement. Nice installations with Spanish descriptions. The flow between spaces was hard to follow as the route between one room to the next was not clear. The art was interesting and some replicated that we saw at MALBA.

The site of original gachupin (Spaniard) administration (police, king's representatives, army) and jail. You can transport yourself back a few centuries - there are videos, uniforms, a limited number of original artifacts. Worth visiting.

Covers from pre-columbian times to 1914. Interesting items, photos, documents, etc. It is difficult to figure out how to visit the rooms in a chronological way. Unfortunately many of the narrative descriptions are marred by a leftist indigenist, anti establishement tone.
Good for those that have some familiarity with Argentine history.
Has an interesting but somewhat hidden store that sells souvenirs and books, needs to be highlighted.

As a Museum director, I always visit museums. This museum was tops on my list since it tells a story much like our own on the Lower East Side of New York City. The staff was very accommodating and knowledgeable. The presentations were excellent.

Not as good as the one in Washington, D. C . , but nice still. They have some interesting displays of life in Germany and Europe before the Holocaust.

Probably not a highly visited tourist spot but it was very interesting house museum. Certainly helps to know spanish as an english tour was not offered when we were there.

Before visiting the different rooms and looking at personal items and books/art collections, you can watch a nice video/movie that explains a little of his life and exile in Patagonia.

If you have time and are nearby, I recommend dropping in.

The José Hernández Museum of Popular Art is a small but interesting museum. It’s laid out nicely in two small display areas and has a nice courtyard. The entry fee is only 3000 pesos (cash only) so it is definitely worth a visit. Enjoy.

You can learn about the history of Buenos Aires in this museum. There are artifacts from the past and multimedia exhibits about the city's development. You can climb to the rooftop terrace for some lovely views. In an exhibit about entertainment, they had a 1960s living room. You can sit on the furniture and listen to audio clips of TV programs, radio, records, etc.

The synagogue is beautiful and the museum is interesting. We saw beautiful Judiaca and lovely art pieces. Some of the signage has been translated to English but not all so I wish I had planned ahead and secured a time with a guide. We went without planning so we just looked around on our own. The receptionist answered some questions but I would have liked to learn more.
You must bring a passport for identification.

The (Instituto Nacional Sanmartiniano) is an interesting cultural building dedicated to Gen. Jose San Martin, who along with Venezuelan Simon Bolivar, was one of the two most important figures in South America’s move to Independence from Spain in the early 19th century. He went into exile dying in France. He was noted as the Liberator of what would become Argentina, Chile, and Perú. After his death he was buried in the Metropolitan Cathedra. Every day his tomb is protected by Granaderos guards.

We were staying in this area, so decided to try this museum. If you are learning Spanish or know it, you will get a lot more out of the museum than we did, as the signs were not in English. But after seeing Sarmiento's name in so many different places around BA, we were interested to learn more. I'm thankful for the signs for kids that used simple Spanish that i was able to understand. The museum isn't large but is well done to see so much of the contributions Sarmiento made and his connection to other countries.
