What a great time. Very informative. For time constraints everyone doesn't make everything, but everyone makes at least one dish. You can still watch and learn how each dish is made. I was with a great group of people that made the time fun. Highly recommend this one if you want to learn about authentic African cooking and culture. They may be adding a surprise to all guest from a suggestion I made. Thank you.

Being a big biltong fan, this was a great short course with many cultural insights. Lots of my questions answered amd know I'll be improving my own biltong making with the many takeaways from this experience:)

One of the activities on our city sightseeing bus ticket.
A bit out of the way to find, however the staff were nice. We did taste test and learnt some things about making chocolate.
They were very accomodating as we got there late but they still did the taste testing tour for us.
Recommend going to support local business. All chocolate is made with beans from Tanzania.

Annika was a warm and welcoming host. We had a great time learning about the ingredients and how to cook Amagwinya, Cape Malay chicken curry, Roti from scratch and Malva pudding. Of course, we then had the opportunity to eat these delicious dishes. So good! As there was only two of us it was so much better than joining a large class in a big commercial kitchen. We also enjoyed the conversation and the opportunity to learn a little more about life in South Africa. If you enjoy cooking and exploring new cuisines and you are looking for something different to do beyond the usual tourist trail, this is a must-do experience in Cape Town. Thank you again to Annika for a wonderful day. This was our first Traveling Spoon booking and certainly won't be our last, Anne and Paul.

Not only did I have the chance to taste delicious gin, but I was also taught how to make it and even got to try making it myself.

The drinks I made didn’t taste as good as those made by professionals. Even with similar ingredients, I learned through experience that the drinks crafted by professionals are more refined and require intricate techniques.

The rum tasting experience was fantastic. Guided by the knowledgeable and witty Wayne, we learnt so much about the history and art of making rum. The signature rums we tasted, paired with the right hints of flavour, was delicious and refreshing. Rounding it off with a detectable honey liqueur was the perfect dessert. This experience comes highly recommended. Thank you Wayne and Team for making our experience one to remember.

Best way to start your day with a breakfast tasting at 9.30 :-)
2nd stop was loaded with interesting stories. Highly recommend the pinotage burger. Wine blending was fun and nice to have souvenirs of the trip. Our guide Robbie has great tips and info, and not having to drive made the day even better! Thanks for a great day!

I absolutely loved the District Six tour. I learnt so much about the rich and dark history of district 6, loved the coffee tasting at Truth, the beautiful street art and the yummy cupcakes at Charly's Bakery! Nothing beats a walking tour where you get to feel the heartbeat of a place and meet its people. A very special experience that will be enjoyed by international travelers and local explorers alike.

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening with Richard and Gillian. Within minutes we felt like old friends at a dinner party. They were wonderful representatives of South Africa. We enjoyed learning more about the culture, the delicious food and sharing life stories. We would do this again and again.

This place was recommended to us by the manager at Clarendon Hotel. The meal consisted of shared plates of eight appetizer dishes, and four entree dishes. My wife and I like spicy food so we really enjoyed the experience and the food. Our friends are less ‘spice-friendly”, so they did not enjoy their meal nearly as much as we did.

The band started playing nice background music at about 7:30 PM, and the patrons had some great frolicking on the dance floor for the group birthday celebration ( for any customers who were there to celebrate a birthday).

Jo, Richard and their daughter treated our family to a warm, intimate evening filled with great food, wonderful South African wines pulled from the cellar beneath the kitchen floor and loads of stories, old and new about their decades of living in Cape Town.

When they learned upon our arrival that my daughter-in-law had numerous food allergies, Jo went to her freezer, pulled out GF pasta and turned it into a delicious entree without missing a beat in the conversation.

It was a delightful surprise to talk with their daughter, who is at the tail end of her high school experience, an experience which is radically different than what my kids had growing up in Chicago. We had never considered the tight security under which Cape Town teens need to live to be safe. It was fascinating to learn about her life.

I wish I could tell you the names of the traditional dishes that Richard and Jo cooked for us, but I don't recall them. What I do recall is that everything was delicious and plentiful.

It was a memorable dinner in a two week trip that was filled with great dinners.
