I suggest packing a breakfast as most stops on this route didn’t have much. We ended at the Graskop Gorge Lift Co. This is a newer facility which thrill seekers will love. - Martijn D3 contributionsThis has been the best day of my Mozambique trip. I stayed in Maputo and got picked up from my accomodation. Don't be afraid of an early pick-up (5 AM). It will all be worth it!
Border cross was smoth as. No worries for a EU-citizen.
Kruger is amazing, don't let other people tell you otherwise. There might be a high amount of 'common' animals, but still, it is an amazing site for my first real safari. We saw: heaps of: elephans/giraffes/wildebeest/zebras/impalas/monkeys/hippo's. We were lucky to catch a lion with 3 chubs, which is not a common thing.
Service from Maputo tours was good, I was accompanied by a very experienced ranger who took its responsibility to spot as much animals as possible in one day. Even after 5 hours of driving around (in 38 degrees). When we told him that on coming Monday my 6year old would celebrate her birthday he sang her a birthday song, bought her a gift from a local market, even had the ladies in the restaurant sing her the birthday song, in a special African way (!), and make a pancake for her, that was a great surprise for all of us! His knowledge (lifelong learner), demeanor and exceptional passion for his Calling as a Tour Ambassador is unrivalled, and the best for our entire time in South Africa. Raher than wasting valuable time driving to and from Kruger, you get to stay inside the park in comfortable tents with proper beds, with electricity for charging phones etc. They cook you a delicious meal and set it up with a lot of ambience. - Daydream28118410 contributionsWe were thoroughly impressed with Tours Maputo and On Safari Africa for this amazing excursion, including the communication, amenities, and the people. Our driver, George, picked us up in Maputo at our apartment in a clean, well-conditioned van, and he was very courteous and considerate. During the drive to and from Kruger, he helped us navigate through the border crossing, which made the process go much smoother.
Once we arrived in Kruger, George handed us over to our Kruger tour guide for the next 2-days, Doctor, who was absolutely fantastic!!! Doctor not only had an amazing knowledge of all of the animals and plants within the park, but he was also fun, considerate, and attentive to his guests. He made sure we got to see everything we wanted to, including four of the Big Five (no cheetah sitings on this trip, maybe next time). For anyone lucky enough to have Doctor as their guide, they are in for a treat!!!
Our accommodations at the Crocodile Kruger Safari Lodge were first class, with an amazing view, beautiful and comfortable facilities, and delicious dinner. Since we had an early morning departure on day 2, they even packed us a to-go breakfast bag for the morning.
We just can say enough good things about this trip. Excellent job by Tours Maputo and On-Safari. I am not going to comment on the Maputo city itself as this is something you can find in other reviews or websites, but will focus on Sertorio.
Sertorio's own story is completely integrated with Mozambique and South Africa recent histories, so spending the day with him was an incredible history class.
Mozambique is a country that has just recently got independent (around the 70s). When the portuguese left, they took with them all the doctors, engineers and teachers with them so the country was left with nothing. To reconstruct the country, the local governement invited Sertorio to be an english teacher there. He went there and not only gave students classes, but was continuosly enhancing his craft by studying in the UK and US to bring the best stuff to this new African country. During his years in Mozambique, he also helped in the fight against the apartheid, so he not only made a difference in reconstructing Mozambique, but got to change South Africa's too!
This is just a brief of everything you can learn with Sertorio...
