There are other easy paths you can take to get other views of the glacier as well. Being able to fully walk around the boat was very useful and the hightened chairs inside the boat provided a good view as well. - Lisa T1 contributionMy husband and I went on a whale watching tour on 9/10/24. We were aboard the Chilkat with Ben, the boat captain and Jamie, the naturalist. They were both professional and competent. We saw orcas and humpbacks! Also, the weather was beautiful and sunny that day! We went to Juneau on a cruise ship and it was easy to find our meeting point right in front of the cruise ship dock. We hit the lotto - the weather was overcast, but warm and dry; we saw a mother and calf, small pod, and a whale breached.

We saw many bald eagles on our drive north of Juneau and had a short tour of the town. Our guide was knowledgeable of the area. - Kris N3 contributionsCertainly a highlight of our trip!! Shayla and Sophie were absolutely fantastic guides. They did a wonderful job in describing the landscape, the history of the glaciers and surrounding landscape as well guiding us to breathtaking close up views of Mendenhall glacier. In addition to the photos we took, they were able to provide us with fabulous personalized photos, best “pro amateur” photographers on a tour!!
They were very friendly and obviously loved their job which made it very enjoyable for everyone in the group.
The equipment provided is top-notch. It rained most of the day and we were able to stay dry and warm with the rain gear that was provided. Dylan was friendly and very knowledgable of the local area and pointed out various Juneau landmarks and history along the route. At the facility, Robert and Bone likewise were welcoming and eager to share their passion for the dogs and mushing with us. Their presentations on sledding and Iditarod history were informative and well done. Each member of the team fielded questions and shared his own stories and insights. The sled run was an absolute blast, and meeting/petting the adult dogs and holding/petting the puppies was an added highlight. They also gave us bottled water and a good variety of snacks.
