    We went on
The Kia Orana island cruise with Captain Fantastic, otherwise known as Andrew!! What a wonderful
Day out he gave us! Not only the tour and history of 7 islands but also a beautifully prepared barbecue! Andrew had a great sense of humour and catered to all our needs ( one of our group asked to go into shallower waters to snorkel and he happily obliged!) I am happy to recommend this tour to anyone travelling to the Cook Islands. I promise u will not be disappointed! Thank you so much Andrew , your tour was the highlight of our holiday, regards Lyn and Ellis.

We came to this island on a private tour with Kute Kute tours. We got to float down the channel with gin and tonics and had this stunning island all to ourselves for a picnic on the beach as the sun went down!

There are a few hotels in this area of the island, we stayed at Tai Roto Bay (reviewed separately) and had access to this beach either fallowing along the shoreline (via shortcut) or going around the main road to arrive at the Aitutaki Village - it's a great place thanks exactly to that hotel and its Blue Lagoon Restaurant as that's where you will get your food/drinks from.

There are no loungers here etc. as the only ones belong to the AV hotel but either way people just end up swimming in the water/walking on the sandbars - it's not the traditional type of beach, since the either island and the Aitutaki Lagoon aren't - this is not just for the eyes type of feast, but I would say it more is than for the actual beach activities/chilling - however it is spectacular.

TIP: there are some low tides in the lagoon and the shoreline can change drastically - which was also fun to see/experience

We drove to where the walking track comes out and walked the rest of the way - you can drive further but the road was a bit over grown when we went in the off-season so we weren't sure. Don't rely on google maps or the Aitutaki maps provided by Cook Islands Tourism Corporation if you want to drive - we accidentally drove onto a few private properties when we did this and had to ask for directions. It ended up being a bit of a bush-bash but was fine. The walk up the mountain is steep but quite short - I did it in thongs though I would not recommend this. The views from the top are spectacular! The walking track from the main road didn't look too steep if you don't fancy driving there. Take a picnic if you can!

We got to visit this famous beach while on a private tour with Kute Kute lagoon tours.
There is a great deal of history to this idyllic beach.
The most crystal clear water and pure white sand with coconut trees blowing in the wind. Absolute paradise.

Definitely worth visiting while you're in Aitutaki. The lookout has great views of the island and some goats will keep you company too! You'll need a car to get here.

We looked at two scrapbooks while having a snack at the little restaurant in the garden. We walked all over the garden and saw many exotic plants. However, none were labeled. The place needs a lot of TLC and input but it has great potential to be an excellent botanical garden if only...

Beautiful Church and Singing! We attended the Sunday service which had congregation of 4 other church parishes. The singing was amazing. It was good that the main speaker also spoke in English for all of the visitors staying in Aitutiki. Great history. Take a fan with you - 2 hr ceremony and extremely hot humidity in church!

    Very welcoming to visitors.

At a mere 124 metres above the crystal lagoon, the Maunga Pu lookout is the highest point on otherwise relatively flat island Aitutaki. Naturally, we wanted to climb it. We tried to drive our rented little sedan up the bitumen road but gave that up when the steep road turned to gravel and we started slipping backwards. So we left the car parked on the main road, and began a half hour hike uphill. The track was pretty in parts, but slippery and steep, rough in places, tough work for an older couple. We had to help each other up, anchoring ourselves by pulling at vegetation by the side of the track. But once at the top, the 360-degree views were terrific, an ideal home for the tall tower which provides much of the island’s telecommunications and rough monuments to the workers who went before. Tip: Give it an hour and don’t do it at night. It’s not for the fainthearted, infants, or anyone wearing thongs. Boots or shoes with good tread definitely recommended.

It's not a must, especially since you need a car to get to this side of Aitutaki from most of the hotels/resorts, but if you already rented a car I suggest to pass through this area and enjoy it - it looks better in real life than on pictures... plus it's hard to drive and take good pictures :P

Cool thing is that as you are driving out of the sudden all of the sunlight cuts off as the tree/trees are so dense and you feel like inside a mini "green bubble"

Brand new purpose built Vaka and she's beautiful. All the comforts you need for a day on the lagoon. Ample space for all guests, friendly staff and a good amount of time to swim and soak it all in.

T&S Artworx has fabulous local black pearl jewelry. Less expensive than the bigger name retailers & good range of quality.
Worth the trip. Call first as hours are variable.
