What travellers are saying
- RobRoySrWinnipeg, Canada8 contributionsHiking through the property we saw exotic birds, howler monkeys and learned about the many fruit trees, herbs and of course the cacao trees! We also made real chocolate the traditional way! Great experience!Written 8 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Megan GWinter Park, CO26 contributionsThis beach was our favorite! It matched the Caribbean experience we were hoping for. The landscape is stunning, the people are friendly, and the vibe on the beach is fun and full of Pura Vida. We parked in the paid parking lot and the security guard was very professional, he even pointed out a sloth for us to see on our walk to the beach. We wish we would have known about this beach before the last day of our trip in Puerto Viejo. We went to Playa Negra, Playa Cocles, and Playa Cahuita National Park for reference.Written 12 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KomatorBarcelona, Spain942 contributionsPlaya Cocles is near Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. It’s quite a large beach. Next to the beach, there are several surf shops. Honestly, I don’t know much about surfing, so I can’t say whether it’s an easy spot, ideal for learning, or better suited for more experienced surfers. There are also various bars where you can grab a drink.
In any case, it’s an ideal place to relax and enjoy the beach.Written 15 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kate5063Sydney, Australia12 contributionsWe really enjoyed our visit here. We wandered around for a couple of hours and saw a number of toucans and a red frog. The guy did the fruit tasting with us, which was fun and he was really enthusiastic about the farm and told us some really interesting stories. Sure it is a bit ramshackle but that what permaculture so often is. Who knew mangosteen trees grew that big?Written 29 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Caroline WLondon, UK30 contributionsNo doubt La Ceiba is a very special place. If you love wildlife, I mean really love it - like sharing the house with it - you will be in heaven here. The wildlife viewing tower as the sun sets is magical - soaking up all the sounds of the jungle and seeing miles of forest below you.
The house itself is lovely - very open plan and stylish.
There are a few buts. This isn’t like staying in a resort. There isn’t much in the way of help here - we muddled through but information prior to arrival is minimal and once you get here you need to figure it out for yourself. Most disappointing though is that they currently don’t offer day or night tours here which was a real draw for us. Bringing in all our food was fine but without a hire car you’d need to be pretty organised.
Overall wonderful to support great rehabilitation programmes but a shame there aren’t good paths to explore, no wildlife books to look at, tours or good comms once you get here.Written 6 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Regan TDover, NH1 contributionLoved the long walk to the beach- saw iguanas and sand crabs along the way. The view on the beach is great! There's done sandy shore and rocky parts to climb. You can get to another beach on the right of v you wanted to take a walk. Riders on horses go by as a part of their tour experience. It was good. Didn't swim. Too much seaweed.Written 19 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- BeatrizPuerto Viejo de Talamanca, Costa Rica2 contributionsExcellent spot to buy unique gifts and souvenirs made by the artists and craft women and men themselves. All pieces are hand made. You will find jewlery, painted teeshirts, bags and a variety of other small itemsWritten 23 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LandogLa Center, WA731 contributionsWe stopped in this grocery store for just a couple of items. We were able to get in and get out very quickly. There were quite a few employees working and offering to help find things. They were all friendly, and would ask if you needed assistance. Very different from shopping in the states. Here it seemed as if there were multiple employees to help you in every aisle. In the states you’re lucky to find help and often those aren’t friendly. They do a great job here at Super Negro! We could take pointers from this store! Great job!Written 13 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
