f you are in the Pudong area I suggest you visit this shopping complex. These will certainly find good and suitable souvenirs from Shanghai. Model aircraft, bags and shoes and utility electronic devices are among the means that will certainly attract your attention. Remember to be sure to get a discount.

We visited here in August 2019 on a tour. Although we were only here for a couple of hours, it was no where near enough time to get through all the shops and food stalls and sights. August is a very busy time and there were many many people everywhere. The architecture was wonderful, and so much to see. Definitely worth the visit. Leave yourself enough time.

Be prepared for being hassled almost every stop but fun. Be prepared to haggle for your purchases but 100s of shops indoors provide opportunities including tailoring, electronics. Jewelry etc. Most speak good enough English. I have gone here dozens of times over the years. Take Green line to Science Center.

We spent an interesting morning exploring the 100's of stalls and shops in the Pearl City Market during our last visit to Shanghai. With the markets endless supply of shops, there was something for everyone's taste from luxury/expensive to inexpensive and common-place. Plus there were always several shops offering the same wares which gave one plenty of opportunity to bargain and get a better deal. I don't think that there was anyone in our group that left empty handed at the end of our visit to the Pearl City Market.

A great setting for those looking to spend a day. Can be alittle challenging if you desire to use map in English. However I'd happily bring the family knowing everyone can find something to enjoy and we'd all have so many meals choices.

Who is it for? This place is for people who like good bargains, knick knacks, odd stuff and flea markets. It's like a permanent flea market ... you don't know what "treasures" you'll find there. Which is why the missus and I found it so interesting browsing the shops around. Our greatest regret was that we didn't set aside enough time - we had only an hour and managed to clear just 2 levels out of 5.

As one reviewer said, this is not a knock-off place ... unlike AP Plaza. You do find the occasional copy goods but not many. Prices are very reasonable (actually cheap!) for many things. Missus got 3 leggings for 10 yuan!!! There's no particular order to the shops - they're quite random. The photos will show the variety of stuff that you can find there. Here's wishing you happy treasure hunting!!

TIP: You get off at Yuyuan Garden Station, Line 2, Exit 4. Plan it together with your visit to Yu Garden, Yuyuan Old Street and the surrounding alleys and shops. It's along the way there, so you kill 2 birds with a stone.

Yes, there are many strange things for foreigners here - birds, tortoises, plants, antiques (faked?) but the main reason you would want to come here is for the crickets. Cricket culture transcends generations of Chinese history and this is one unique place to experience this Chinese cricket culture. Tip : Before your trip, read up on Chinese cricket culture, watch the videos on YouTube and you will appreciate better why they do what they do in this market. Then squat beside some customers and enjoy the banter between the seller and buyer. Hint : The Chinese buy crickets either for their songs or for fights. I suspect it's the former in the market.

My mistake : I went there blind - oh, there's this Bird and Flower market - let's go see it. Then started wondering why there were so many cricket sellers and buyers. Why on earth would anyone want to buy crickets? It was only after the visit that I Googled the cricket culture to much regret. If only I had known earlier, my trip would have been all that much more meaningful.

By the way, in Google Maps, the Bird & Flower Market is reflected as 万商花鸟市场 (Wan Shang Hua Niao Shi Chang ie Wan Shang Bird & Flower Market).

If you look for some Western like restaurants Hongmei Entertainment street is an option. You find sports bar atmosphere, breweries,German style,Italian style, French style,Greek style and some local style restaurants. It gets crowded around 8 pm and later on with live music. Prices and quality of food is OK. Lots of Western people and some Chinese people looking for something different.

This night market is not very fancy. A lot of poor fakes and bad quality. It also closes very early at around 10pm, so why night market? it depends where you are, but the is no subway close to the market and it takes either a long walk or expensive taxi ride.

Between Shimen and West Nanjing Rd metro. Nothing really special here, as in a lot of place in Shanghai it has food and multiple shops. Its advantage is that there are some cheap but good noodle bars with value menu for about 30 RMB ($5) in an area that that boasts a lot of expensive stores.

This was a most interesting experience but it is a cultural thing so we shouldn’t judge, even if we don’t like it. Most interesting were the huge insects like crickets but also the fighting crickets for sale. The owners happily let me photograph them.
