- SANJU CDarjeeling24 contributionsOK to visit big bazaar and Reliance and to watch movies in Inox, besides that it doesn't offer anything muchWritten 5 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Seema1709Chandigarh, India2,240 contributionsSince we were staying right opposite Ava Art Gallery, I decided to visit it one afternoon. The gallery is a small one, though every one in Darjeeling knows about it. It is in a state of disrepair. There is an entry ticket of 2 rs.
The gallery is a treasure trove of beautiful embroidered paintings by Mrs Ava Devi. On first look, they appear to be oil paintings,
The gallery also houses oil paintings and a collection of old coins and notes from different countries.
One can well imagine the talent of the artist by looking at these masterpieces. The paintings are not for sale.Written 4 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - ajapetrusMahe, India818 contributionsTeesta Bazaar is a very small scenic town on the bank of the Teesta river lying between Kalimpong and Peshok (Tea Garden) along the Peshok Road/Rishi Road. The Siliguri – Gangtok Highway also intersects here. Situated at about 90 m above MSL, the entire locality is panoramic with greenery, mountains, river, bridges and mist everywhere. Lined with a few shops, Teesta Bazaar is a popular stopover for the tourists on their way to Darjeeling or Kalimpong or Gangtok, to refresh with hot momos, noodles and Chaai. Some local handicrafts, garments and souvenirs, notably the ‘thangkas’ are on popular sale in the few shops.
The confluence of the Rangeet and Teesta rivers actually occurs in between Melli, another small border town on the North-eastern side and Teesta Bazaar. Teesta Bridge connects the lower plains with Kalimpong and Darjeeling and also the hills of Sikkim.
The whitish sand banks at the confluence, known as Triveni, is said to be used for river camping and launching white water rafting into Teesta. There is a narrow road, called Triveni Road, along the left of the Peshok road (while coming from Darjeeling-Ghum-Jore Bungalow direction) that runs parallel to the Teesta reaching near the Triveni Beauty Spot/Sandy Beach at the confluence.Written 6 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - 9708372852a317 contributionsThis hall is good and manu empowerment works are done here. - Tapan D2 contributionsThis is our second trip with Darjeeling Walks. This time we chose to take their signature tea experience following a few days in a faraway haven from the bustling crowd of the Darjeeling town. We cannot recommend them enough to anyone looking for a wonderful refuge from the regular city life. Filled in history, knowledge, heritage, food, culture our experiences were immersive. We had an amazing family time. I must say, a memorable and momentous holiday spent with Darjeeling Walks.Written 15 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- SoftlandingLondon, UK368 contributionsLife in exile must be hard for the Tibetan refugees. This centre demonstrates the resilience of the refugees and the efforts to preserve their handicrafts. A small shop sells some of these crafts.Written 20 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- PeregrineriNew Delhi, India942 contributionsThis is a nice little shop with locally made items and locally-sourced tea. The quality is very good.Written 6 November 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- SESNoVAAnnandale, VA401 contributionsNot only are there a large number of Kashmiri shawls, but they come in so many different varieties! The very helpful owner (Mr. Agarwal) provides quite an education in the different qualities of wool, as well as in the tremendous number of decorative techniques used for each quality.
I've shopped in Kashmiri stores all over India, and don't think I've ever gotten as beautiful of a product with such helpful personal service before.Written 1 January 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - ChrisMinneapolis, MN48 contributionsWe came to Darjeeling a bit ill-equipped for the cool weather. We were lucky to find this shop. The set us up with long underwear suits and some other warm gear. This felt similar to an REI in the US, (although much much smaller), but lots of high quality outdoor gear. Prices were super affordable. Staff was helpful and friendly. They accepted our American credit cards. Great spot! Don't miss it! Also don't miss the Himalayan Java Coffee Shop across the hall!Written 8 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
