- Mahesh KarlekarMumbai, India6 contributionsThe Kapaleeshwarar temple, with a seven-tiered Gopuram, is known for magnificent sculptures depicting Puranic incidents. Sri Kapaleeshwarar and Devi Karpagambigai are in separate shrines. Lord Vinayaka and Muruga are in smaller shrines. On the northern corner of the corridor, there is a sculptural representation of the Devi as a peahen. There are sub-shrines for Gnanasambandhar and the merchant girl Poompaavai. The 63 Saivite saints (Nayanmars) are enshrined on the corridors.Written 28 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Im_GPSBengaluru, India698 contributionsA beautiful beach with ample car parking and is close to the city-center. We made a couple of visits during last week of December. The beach was almost empty with little to no crowd. The weather was courteous to us, so we made a nice beach walk during the evening and in the night. The ocean was ferocious in the night, and it was a lovely sight to watch.
The only part I dislike was the make-shift eateries shops right at the entrance is quite annoying for the visitors and lessen the beauty of the beach. Otherwise, it's a nice beach.Written 3 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rajagopal SEdison, NJ3,380 contributionsOne of the most iconic temples in Chennai . Has a lot of heritage behind this place . Been ages since I visited this temple ! Went back after about 10 years and this place is just so awesome ! So much of sanctity and peace inside the temple . Went by train 🚆 and it was walkable distance from station . Took me less than 10 mins to reach .
Loved every part of this temple . Lots of history behind this with Pallavas building this temple and then expanded by cholas. The moola vigraham was so awesome. . There was a bit of queue but it kept moving . Went in the morning at around 9.30 am. Also had the famous puliyodharai prasadam at the exit ! The temple is also maintained so well. It’s clean and very environment friendly .
A must visit temple in Chennai . Great and divine experience. 5 stars !Written 24 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Friendly one table cafe, small businesses, large churches as much more. There is of course the slum area too. Some must sees are the Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Kapaleeshwarar Temple Tank, Swami Shwetambar Jain Temple, St Thomas Cathedral Basilica. You wouldn't really want to visit Nochikuppam beach which just looks like a rubbish dump.Written 30 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LolaGo1Washington DC, DC6,624 contributionsMy hotel is located in this neighborhood. During my 3 days stay in Chennai, I walked around this neighborhood, admiring the beautiful clothings on display as well as the the jewelries. Just looked around here, but did not buy a thing.
There also are local shops catering to the needs of the locals such as bakery store, small restaurants, etc.Written 15 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Ticket price of rs. 750 for adults and 650 for children is reasonable. Attractions like Free Fall and Centrox are really enjoyable. I went with my family and my son's enjoyed a lot. Only Minus is very less water games.Written 29 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Dr Javed RasheedChennai (Madras), India3,879 contributionsVisited this place so many times as Edward Elliot's Beach, simply called as Elliot's Beach and popularly known as Besant Nagar Beach or the Bessie, is a natural urban beach located in the Besant Nagar neighbourhood of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The Greater Chennai Corporation has ranked Besant Nagar beach as the cleanest among the seven beaches in the city. The other six beaches in the southern metropolis are Marina, Thiruvanmiyur, Tiruvottiyur, Palavakkam, Neelankarai, and Akkarai. This beach is less crowded than the Marina beach and personally I prefer going to this beach that has a typical beach atmosphere with people on the beach, a few vendors and one can sit there and enjoy the atmosphere of this place that typically has its own identity.

- Deadman17Mumbai, India537 contributionsThis is a not so famous beach near valkmiki nagar. A bit out of the way, and hence it is not frequented by tourists and then is not as crowded. A good place to spend some time in peace. Walkers are seen aplenty in morning and evening. Limited street food is available.Written 23 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
