Valluvar kottam is situated in the heart of Chennai (Madras) city in Nungambakkam. It is a monument constructed in memory of great tamil poet "Thiruvalluvar" who wrote two lines songs, which is called "Thirukural". Monument looks like temple-chariot built 40 years back. This place is tourist attraction.Improvement is required in maintenance.

The gallery is very nice, has got a very good collection of art work . Experienced artists come here and display their work with great enthusiasm. You would get chance to talk to them and share their experience

    Mahalingapuram temple in my neighbourhood

    Its Vijayadhasami night
    The bells in opposite temple
    chymes for Aarthi in progress
Promptly @ 6 pm local time
    for the Gods enshrined
    In the order of Ganapathy
    Mahalingeshwarar (Shiva)
    followed by Murugan and finally
Bragathsundarambal lordess shakthi. It goes on every day without fail.

    There is always prasadham served
at the end of it, courtesy some
devotee , praying for a boon
Or thanking the gods for a boon granted.

    On the night of Vijayadhasami
I recall with divine reverence , the genesis of this temple and the role played by my wife's grandfather Late Mahadeva Iyer along with his colony mates , kalyana Rama Iyer, Dunlop Viswanathan , V krishna murthy,
    N subramaniam post master
    sumubrananiam I Tax,
    P Gopalswamy iyengar,
G subramanian and a young man
named Subbaraman, in creation of this temple around the year 1965.

During one of their routine ensemble in the evenings , under the Pupil tree on the main Road opposite to our present home ,they decided that the emerging Mahalingapuram colony needed a temple of its own . They had no.money but only determination .

This tree was on a private land belonging to Late Mahalingam Chettiar , in whose name the new colony was formed. He owned most tracts of land in this area, which he later plotted and sold to people .

They unanimously decided to put up a temporary temple for Vinayagar before the Chuturthi festival ,just under the tree .

It did not bother their mind , that they were actually encroaching a private land , belonging to Mahalingam chetty and felt that once the temporary temple was put up, then they may be in a position to convince him.to gift the land to the temple, for he was known to be very religious and a devout Shivite .

They got to work in earnestness
and dug a well with their own hands near the tree upto a depth 20 ft and then put up a parapet wall around it and next to it, they built a small pedestal.

Then they erected a thatched temporary pandal above the pedestal .

They then approached , Ms W S insulator Ltd, an electrical porcelein conductor manufaturer in Nandambakkam , to cast a Porcelein Ganapathy idol for temple, which they obliged in double quick time .

They installed this idol of Ganaoathy on the pedestal on a rainy day, well in time before chaturthi , that year .

At this point many in the colony then came on board, chipped in with meagre resources , to conduct poojas to that idol from that day .

Seeing the encouragement from resident , soon the seniors of the colony including Varatharaja Iyer , my wife's father joined togather , to form a society to manage the temple and then they approached Mahalingam Chetty to donate the land for the temple .

Being a devout Shivite and religiously inclined , he obliged with a condition, that the main diety must be shiva .He gifted two grounds for constructing a shiva temple .

In a span of eight years the temple emerged with the blessings of Kanchi Paramacharya .

When It was time for Kumba Abhisekham around 1973 ,Three Kanchi Achryas participated in the consecration of gopura kalasams.

Our home across the road, which was then a parcel of empty land became the mandapam for putting up the all the required homa kundams .

At one time this temple at the suggestion of Kanchi Maha Periava started a centre for registering the horoscopes of eligible bachelors for the benefit of parents, who had daughters to be wed .This yeomen service for mostly brahmin community came up long before any Shaadi.com. came on the scene .

Narashimman, an astroger of repute got associated with this service.
His father was the famous astrolger, who for years had been computing the Official Madathhu panchangam for Kanchi Mutt .

Narashimman used to camp at the temple each afternoon to help in matching horoscopes for parents, for a very nominal charge .

Over time it was closed due non cooperation from parents registering the boys horoscope in not reporting the marriage of their son promptly
    to the centre.

All the religious ceremonies as Per Agama Shastra are being carried out even today without fail at this temple.

This temple is managed by a registered Society and elected committe members .

The temple has already conducted the second Kumbha Abhisekham somevyears back and the third one is round the corner soon.

It has seen huge pattonage by many living far and near, including those from Kollywood that included AVM Saravanan .

I am sure grandfather Mahadeva Iyer , Mani Iyer, Ganga Krishnamurthy and all those men I mentioned above must be happy in heaven watching this temple flourish .SubbaRaman the sole surviving member of that team, is still involved in running of this temple and he provided information , about the men who initiated this tempke construction along with grand father Mahadeva Iyer.

To his credit Mahadeva Iyer also had the distinction of conductiing regular renovation and kumbha Abhishekam to The Sundareshwarar temple in his home town of Radha Narasingapuram , a small hamlet in Mannargudi, near kumbakonam in Tanjore dist .of Tamil Nad .My wife was born in this primitive villlage.

His being a village karnam , during British days helped him to raise funds apart from ploughing his own money for its maitenance.

Mahadeva Iyer was also an Environmental protector .In those days Mahalingapuram was quite barren with just building, being a new colony . He made sure , he planted with his own hands, miniumum two trees in every home in this colony .They have now grown over the years , standing testimony to his greening efforts .He was known to have green thumb .

In conclusion ,let me invoke the blessings of Maha Ganapathy , Mahalingeshwarar , the main diety, Murugan,Ramar,Anjaneyar Bragathsundarambal , Guruvayur krishna and Dhakshinamoorthy , who are all enshrined in this temple, on the eve of 2019 Vijayadhasami,
to bless all those who read this post and those who also dont , for they may not be on my page.

On 14th Apr'17, around 4.30 pm, I have booked an Ola auto and visited Agatheeswaran Temple at Nungambakkam. It was an ancient temple built 500 years ago.

The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva in the name of Agatheeswarar facing towards East. Goddess Akilandeswari in the right hand side facing towards south. The walls of the Goddess Shrine have Ichha Sakthi, Kriya Sakthi & Gnana Sakthi as Idols on all 3 sides.

Other deities available in the temple are Vinayagar, Murugan, the saints Appar, Sundarar, Manickavasagar, Thirugnana sambandar, Dakshinamurthy etc., Had a wonderful dharshan at the temple. Also visited Asalathamman temple nearby.

Last week I met Dr. Manu Das MD Ayurveda at Sowkhya Way 2 Health Ayurvedhic Centre in Nungambakkam for Migraine Headache, calf muscle pain, anckle pain in my right leg. Since I am aged 51, he told me to go for complete medical examination (Master Health Check Up) he listen’s my problem and explains with clarity.
    Second Visit 28.05.2017
After completing my master checkup, I have taken all the reports and met the Dr. Manu Das, he has prescribed me for ayurvedhic syrup for 2 times a day for 10 days. This syrup body will correct the body functioning system, and then he will start suitable treatment for me. Dr Manu Das approaches problem in a systematic way and try to identify root cause of the problem. I am very happy the way Dr. Manu talks to me and the manner in which his treatment.
I recommend Dr. Manu Das for any illness. Front office staffs are very pleasing. This clinic situates in a multistory apartment with holistic atmosphere. Environment is very clean, calm and holistic.
    Suggestion:
Please put a name board in front of the building.
Earlier I used to visit SADAYUSH/SANJEEVANAM for Abhayangam treatment, after taking this treatment I feels very energetic, but the same day evening I am getting severe headache. I am having migraine headache problem for the past 15 years. If I call above centers immediately they give appointment at an available time. They never ask for any previous health issues.

I went to this place not knowing what to expect. The only information I got over hearsay was that it was a game where we need to escape from a room cracking clues. But the experience was thrilling. I'd recommend families to experience this. It's absolute fun!
