Visited the Byculla Zoo alongwith my 4 year old daughter.
The Zoo is a very huge property with lots of new enclosures being constructed.
Wrt the animals, there were limited animals in the Zoo. The signage in the zoo listed a lot of animals but we manage to see.... 1 Elephant, 1 Tiger, 2 Cheetahs, lots of Spotted Deers, 1 jackal, 1 baby turtle, 2 snakes that were coiled up and sleeping so it took a while for us to spot the snakes, 1 bear and 2 or 3 Penguins.
The enclosures for the above animals were quite big and seemed comfortable for them.
There were also variety of birds such as the military macaw, the red beak parrot, etc. The aqua birds enclosure was very beautiful however it needs to be cleaned as it stinks and can be infectious to asthmatic patients and otherwise as well
When we enquired with the security around for other animals we were told that after completion of the renovation the zoo is expected to have many more species of animals including lions, crocodiles, monkeys etc. So probably vl make our next visit then.
The zoo has a beautiful seperate playing area for small and big kids which was nice and safe.
There are many beautiful gardens and shades where people cud just relax and enjoy the surrounding greenery.
There are also many open sheds which was a nice relaxing place, however fans need to be installed which can provide a lot of relief on hot sunny days.
One can comfortably spend an entire day at the zoo.
The only drawback of the zoo is directions....i felt it shld be a little more precise and should have proper arrows indicating the directions.
As the zoo is very huge each enclosure should be numbered in sequence and labelled so visitors don't miss out on spotting any animals.
The signboards should have been displayed at appropriate locations so that visitors can easily move around the zoo and cover everything in the zoo. It's gets very confusing as to which direction one needs to enter next after covering one area as the zoo is huge.
