- FionaMelbourne, Australia42 contributionsWe had a wonderful 12 hour day to the countryside from Mumbai, starting at dawn. The caves and carvings were amazing and it felt serene and spiritual. It was a fairly strenuous walk up many stone steps to each of the caves in the humid heat, but well worth it, and plenty of places to stop and rest. The caves felt like a cool, refreshing reprieve at the top. The Karla caves have many stalls along the way selling a range of souvenirs for travellers and offerings for worshippers.
We had a wonderful guide, who was patient and knowledgeable, and it felt good to know about his charity work and university studies. The driver was careful and safe, despite the hair raising traffic getting out of Mumbai. They were eager to communicate, and easy to reach.
As a private tour you can choose your time and pick up spot, and your driver will meet you there. The guide was helpfull, and everything was after my pace- so when I needed to take it slow we did.
The guide at the caves was amazing. Really knowledgeable and eager to share! He was easy to understand.
I would really reccomend both the Young Tours and Travel, and the national park, the Kanheri caves and Pagoda tour!
Even though the weather was a bit wet, the tour was great!

It is so refreshing to leave Mumbai for the countryside, and enjoy a day trekking. Our guide once again was Samuel Corda, who is an experienced outdoorsman, extremely knowledgeable, conversant, and engaging… and an expert naturalist as well!
