What travellers are saying
- Nina CSurrey, UK244 contributionsWe came here with a driver and guide. The slope to the parking area from the main road is extremely steep, and there are several hairpin bends to negotiate. I'm glad we weren't driving!!
The statue of Hanuman is visible all over Shimla and is very impressive. The attractive temple is nearby, but we didn't enter it. I was surprised by the lack of monkeys - I saw more on The Ridge.Written 6 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Yes there are standard shops but it is as much about the historic buildings etc that you will see.Written 6 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steve_Grant1Oldham, UK1,874 contributionsThis is a historic colonial site that has been repurposed now as an educational establishment. The outside is the main thing to see. You do get to go inside but only on 5he ground floor and this is ok not spectacular.Written 6 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Nina CSurrey, UK244 contributionsThe Ridge is pedestrianised and runs from Scandal Point to Christ Church and provides excellent views of the surrounding countryside.
Luckily, we happened to be visiting Shimla during the Hindu festival of Karwa Chauth, celebrated by married women who pray for their husband's health, longevity and prosperity. They are able to break their fast when the moon rises, and there was a huge gathering of women in their finest saris on The Ridge after sunset. We had a really enjoyable evening there.Written 6 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Geoff HSissinghurst, UK18,152 contributionsStanding at one end of The Ridge, the neo-Gothic Christ Church is an imposing landmark on Shimla's skyline. Built by the British in 1857, its interior is plain in appearance except for some splendid stained-glass windows at the eastern end. Amongst these, the chancel window was designed by Lockwood Kipling, the father of Rudyard Kipling. As you would expect from a church of the British India era there are many plaques and memorials on the walls. Living not far from Tonbridge in Kent, I was amazed to see one memorial honouring Arthur Pearse Howell, a former pupil of Tonbridge School. Another interesting memorial honours Lieutenant-General Sir Gerald de Courcy Morton. Described as "a noble character and a simple gentleman", this is the person who developed the 'dumdum' bullet beloved by big game hunters and thriller writers. If you are anywhere on The Ridge, it is worth entering to have a look at this historic building.Written 11 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NafeeTADhaka City, Bangladesh741 contributionsThe place is definitely worth the visit, when you are in Kufri. We went during winter, after snowfall had just hit the place. We went up the mountain portly by car, then rest by jeep (requires 4WD). They took us to a viewing area atop the hill, where there were snow activities, such as ski-ing and tubing. As you leave the top, on your way down, you can stop at the many scenic spots to view the grand mountain side filled with greenery and some snow.Written 22 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
