This is an insanely good hidden gem in Delhi - kids under 14 are free entry and its 600 rupees for adults which is not insignificant but worth every penny - definitely get a guide as you go into the site, and visit first thing in the morning or late afternoon - the main tomb is a stunning fusion of architetural styles and a clear blueprint for the much better known and busier Taj Mahal. This is like a pilot episode for that building!

We were making 5 days trip through golden triangle together with my huby and his brother and my mother in law. Overall four different age groups. Nevertheless for each of us was the organisation of the trip excellent. Special thanks to Mr.Mehraj our guide in Sagri. He is wonderful guide, who brought us with his stories back in time. Thanks go as well to our driver Mr.Prem, who drove us safely through complete trip.

We were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to cook with Neha at Saffron Palate during a family trip to India. If you have the time I can't recommend the experience enough. There were 5 of us of very mixed ability in the kitchen, but Neha ensured everyone was included. She takes all the mystique out of Indian cookery by showing just how quick and easy it can be. Her butter chicken recipe is sublime and we cooked potatoes that will be a regular feature in our household. Also who knew how many delicious breads you can make with flour and water?! Neha is very generous with both her time and knowledge so I would strongly advise any and all visitors to Delhi to add this to their itinerary.

Having a driver has made our trip fabulous. We could explore places that were sometimes quite difficult to reach and easily change our plan for some of the destinations.
Welcomed by Bharat and our driver Kamlesh at the airport was super nice.
All along the trip, our driver Kamlesh was incredible. He gave us good advices and could answered all our questions. He was kind and always smiling.
If I had to do it again I would have asked for Kamlesh again, for sure.
Thank you for the good memories!

I do not typically enjoy cooking, but I loved this class! It was an amazing experience from the moment I arrived. The cooking studio is bright and colorful. Anchal was so welcoming and knowledgeable. She walked us step by step through several dishes. Her easy and straightforward directions made me feel like I can make these dishes at home. I appreciated that she focused on healthy home cooking. The food was delicious! The market tour was also great. I recommend this class to anyone visiting Delhi!

Preeti welcomed us into her home to cook a variety of typical Indian dishes. With fluent English she explained the various spices, ingredients and techniques to make chicken curry, paneer, dahl, chapatis, and a dessert. We were then invloved in every step, with Preeti answering our questions and providing further instruction along the way. We enjoyed our dinner together in the atmosphere of a modern Indian home. We have travelled through Delhi and other parts for the last two weeks, buying some spices along the way and we now have the knowledge, skills, and recipes from Preeti to make delicious Indian food in Australia. I highly recommend this experience. To be meet Preeti and learn cooking inside her home was one of the best experiences of our trip.

Great way to start of the trip in India. On the first day after our flight this was the only thing on our itinerary and it was a really amazing experience. We learned two dances and after learning the routine we did a short recording. The entire class took about two hours to complete. We hired one costume and the other we bought before the class. We were given some drinks during the dances and some local food at the end was a great final touch. Definitely recommended! :)

Food in Chauri Bazaar to Chandani Chowk , Old Delhi in the Pre Corona days.

“It was a soothing reiki of sights, sounds and smell , of a different world all together. Eating there was just incidental.”

One fine evening, I got off at the Chauri Bazaar Metro station and walked the narrow lanes upto the South Gate of Jama Masjid to the famous ‘food street’ of Kareem’s and Al Jawahar for a hearty meal of Kali Mirch Chicken and a huge Khameeri Roti. This is where the real foodies go.

After spending two hours there, took a loop round the whole Jama Masjid through the east gate night market, to exit on the Chandani Chowk side and after travelling through another set of streets reached the Metro station of Chandani Chowk and went back home. So this was the plan.

Back at the South Gate of Jama Masjid, looking at the multitude of eateries........with food in so much of abundance, one wonders ; how can people go hungry. The list of food items besides the endless grill shops of mutton, chicken and fish , go on to the exotic dishes of the Mughal period. Be it sweets, bakery rusks, roties, everything was available. In fact besides the usual Khameer roti, the most exotic roti one can have there was the sweet dry fruit laden desi ghee Sheermal roti.

Of course I couldn’t miss the amazing historic sweets like the extra long Gulab Jamun, the Kala Jamun, kali Jalebi, white gajar ka halwa, chawal til ke pakore besides the whole range of the usual fare. The ‘sweet milk’ stalls with a variety of other milk based sweets were mouth watering.

Oh yes, I also had the amazing Shahi Tukra ...... the famous Mughal dish which was fabled to have been brought by Emperor Babur, learnt through an Egyptian cook to make use of left over breads. Everyone trying to please me by giving a bite to taste........
Probably today I managed to touch the tip of the iceberg in this milieu of Chauri Bazaar......but with subsequent visits the rusks and bakery biscuit shops that I conveniently overlooked, have to be explored.

This place is cluttered, chaotic, congested and probably the only place in the world where traffic jams are caused by cycle rickshaws, two wheelers and pedestrians !!
But it has its character ...... vendors calling out to clients, a suspected thief being beaten outside a jewellery shop, people standing in the centre of the road deep in discussions , oblivious of the traffic chaos they have caused and ....... so on.

And the cultural transition is so evident when one walks from the muslim dominated lanes of Chauri Bazaar to the front side of Jama Masjid multi talented handicraft markets, melting into the Hindu dominated delicious chaat stalls and sweet shops of Chandani Chowk. Suddenly non veg disappears from the roads and poori /kachori/bewri with aloo Sabzi and thick Jalebis becomes the order of the day.

This food trail of course ends at the strictly vegetarian Parantha wali gali behind the Gurudwara. That’s the only place in the world where you get paranthas fried in shallow pans of desi ghee, stuffed with whatever vegetable you can imagine. Oh yes. I had a sweet banana stuffed parantha !! And the ka^rela parantha is not to be missed. The menu is so vast that you could have every vegetable / dry fruit stuffing possible with mix and match options.

But, there was one common food on both sides of Jama Masjid. This common delicacy is called ‘DAULAT ki Chaat.’ And it is not the traditional chaat!!

Lodged in a straw basket on the back side of a bicycle, this heritage sweet is made from the froth of sweetened milk mixed with kesar/Elaichi flavours and dry fruits. It’s variant is called Makhan Malai in UP and is available only in the winter days as the froth is frozen in the cool breeze of the night. Here the vendors were visible till 10pm.

For many folks, this place may seem dirty and unhygienic compared to modern day kitchens and restaurants , but at the same time it is fascinating to see and smell the exciting delicacies being freshly prepared in front of you.

So go challenge your self, if you are a true foodie !!!

We went on the South Indian heritage tour during August 2023. Trinitra were extremely accommodating from the moment we reached out to them. They were able to change the tour to fit our indecisiveness and they never made us feel like this was a problem. It is the second time we have travelled with Trinetra in India and we honestly don't know what we would have done without them. They have made as fall in love with the country of India as every single second of the holiday was flawless. Everywhere we went we felt completely looked after and any minor issues sorted out with a immediate effect. Communication is spotless. The itinerary that was put together for us was breathtakingly fabulous and we would not have achieved this without Trinetra and there excellent knowledge of tourism in India. We will definitely becoming back to Trinetra for our travel needs as they cater for all over the world. Don't hesitate to book your Indian adventure with Trinetra as you will not be disappointed!!

Before travelling to India, I searched and contacted several local travel agencies but since the first reply of Manoj (Head of Private Driver in India) I knew that this was the one. Clarity, professionalism, transparency, reliability, excellent communication and flexibility in adapting my 16 day tour in Rajasthan to my requirements, made Private Driver in India immediately my best option.
After a few emails, Manoj created, organised and coordinated this taylor-made Trip wonderfully. The result was so much better than how I had envisioned it.
    It was perfect !
My driver was Savi, a 5 Star driver with many years of experience and with a vast knowledge of India’s heritage and life, giving me the best advices at all times, in a kind and friendly manner. He took me to great local food restaurants and thanks to his recommendations I tried delicious traditional Indian dishes (and the exquisite Masala Chai of course). He safely drove me trough more than 3000 km, always joyful, never tired and always there to look out for my well being and safety.
Manoj contacted me several times throughout the trip to ensure I was having a good time.
This is priceless and this is what I call excellent service (expected and surely provided).
I had a marvellous time and this was undoubtedly one of my best travel experiences ever. The richness of India’s heritage, its wonderful people, its impressive architecture, the colours, scents, tastes and music makes it a top world travel destination not to be missed, especially in the hands of this superb travel agency.
Being a world traveler, I wish Private Driver in India had branches everywhere I travel to. It would make my travels so much smoother and I would enjoy so much more without worrying about endless logistics difficulties (and some occasional scams).
I will return to India and I will again reach out for Manoj and Private Driver in India.
Thank you for helping me create unforgettable memories.
