One of the most famous places in Jaffna. A spectacular hindu kovil with a lot of history. If your visiting Jaffna then this is one of the best places to go could be little crowded but definitely worth a visit.

A great link with the past. Access is easy and free. We enjoyed our leisurely walk on the ramparts and grounds. As with other historical locations this would benefit with more info on the history to the present time. What is the link with other Dutch forts? Neglect of this historical perspective is sad. Grounds are unkempt and toilets terrible.

Preservation can be funded if foreigners were charged a small fee.

A market just like any other that you find in South Asia, Jaffna Market gives you a nice peek into local life.

It is a fair way out of Jaffna but it is worth going to given its history. You won't find any westerners out here as it is not a comfortable a/c trip. If you take the public ferry to the island please try to avoid going underneath in the hull as there is no way you are getting out alive if the ferry starts to take on water. I think they just stopped counting when they reached the capacity limit. I reckon we had about 10 times the recommended passengers on board.
Once there, the Buddhist and Hindu temple are quite impressive and well maintained.
You will need at least half a day to get there and back to Jaffna.

This ancient Hindu temple also resides in the Nainathivu island. Temple is very colorful with lots of art work and murals. Visitors are expected to follow customary dressing rules and be respectful.

What a Temple. Never have I seen one like this in Sri Lanka. It was very close to the Jaffna Heritage Hotel at where we stayed. It was very big and most of all a very quiet environment. I was surprised by how clean a huge temple was. I heard it dates back many 100s of years. What was very unique here was gents had to remove their shirts before entering, but I guess that's how temple in the North are. We were just in time for one of the poojas. Very nice to just walk as there was so much to observe when it comes to the intricate details of the Kovil, its architecture etc...

I enjoyed the different parts of the fort but especially the high bastion and its views of Jaffna. The ancient boat was also fascinating. I found it a little difficult to try to match the ruins with the brochure. The brochure was interesting though explaining the influences of the Dutch and Portuguese.

One of the beautiful beaches in Jaffna peninsula. Clean white sand with small waves makes it child friendly environment.

A long causeway with masses of prawn farms in the sea. Lots of seabirds . Worth the drive. We did not get to the islands

Historical and Natural water flowing pond. Poorly maintained, may be due to the closure of Covid-19. Not recommended if the place is crowded since you can't bathe.

Quite a historic place. Learning the history about how a war once took place here was very interesting. A landmark in the 30 year civil war history of Sri Lanka

The Library does have a historic value for sure, but I don’t consider it a must-see venue, especially if you’re having a tight schedule.

This is an ancient place which is more relevant for Buddhist.
Without Google map you won't be able to navigate.
Hope these places have more tourist friendly amenities like washroom, water, benches etc.
