Hiked up Concepion Volcano with Lazaro. Sadly it was very socked in up top but still a great experience. Lazaro was a wealth of knowledge of the area and can tell he loves his job and to share this beautiful island with others. He was so helpful with us booking our ferries to Ometepe as well. Goes above and beyond. Whatsapp number is 50558403700

The hike is difficult. Period. Takes about 2 hours of all incline to get to the mirador. It’s hard but 100% doable even for the inexperienced so long as youre able to go your own pace. I loved the views along the way, youre IN the jungle. Bring a hiking pole and have a basic working knowledge of what incline hiking is like. It’s a lot of climbing the first half. The second half is why you need a guide. There’s not clear identifiable trails. Takes about another 3hrs and expect to get muddy. Just do research, know what you’re getting into and I would, without a doubt #1 recommendation, DO NOT go with a big group of varying capabilities. Going faster than you want or slower than you want can make things so much harder than they need to be. Everyone needs to go on their own pace and enjoy the ride. If you can’t do that, it’ll be awful.

A great reprieve from the heat and humidity. A lovely little swimming hole, complete with swings and a rope, which was enjoyed by children and adults alike many eating it and tons of drinking options. My feet was S$10 which included entry plus a snack, which was a small tube of Pringles.

Ometepe was the highlight of our trip. A beautiful island with excellent views, food, and people. We rented a bike for $40 for the day and the roads were perfect. We could have easily gotten something with less power. The foliage, the scenery, the serenity - it’s just stunning. I wish we would have stayed there longer! Definitely check out Playa Mangos and skip Ojo de Agua. It wasn’t worth it.

Butterfly garden is beautiful, also turtles. Not big but ok. Later a walk around Charco Verde and swimming on beach Bacon. Some monkeys and birds and many butterflies also outside the garden. The walk with swimming took one hour.

The museum is great! We had a tour with one of the guides. He didn't speak much English but he used an app to translate. It worked really well. We learned so much!

100% recommend renting scooters off Elmer!! He was so helpful, gave us recommendations on the best things to see/driving times, roads to avoid and even offered to take me for a test drive as it was my first time on a scooter! His shop is also right next to the ferry port which is really handy!

Spectacular view of the volcano and a cute little beach. Nothing wow but definitely worth a quick pop-in.

I have been visiting Ometepe for 20 years and Eric is the best guide I have used. He focuses on local fauna, flora and wildlife as he is conducting the tour, speaks impeccable english, and is prompt, courteous and supremely knowledgeable about an Island he has called home for 40 years.

Do not underestimate this hike! We thought it was going to be a lot easier than it was. We parked at the gate and walked up from there, which absolutely makes it harder. However, we did not feel safe taking the scooters up or down, which was the right choice.

We took a kayak trip with Caiman Tours, the nearest to the entrance of Istian river we could find. Our guide was Dani/Danny.

It was in one word UNBELIEVABLE!!! Our youngest son (11) is very into wild animals (wants to be a biologist), so we were very clear before we left: there is never a guarantee that you can see animals in the wild, even if you know there're there. But it was much better than expected, even much more than we could have hoped for: we saw many caimans, but also bats and a lot of birds. It was amazing! Dani really looked for the caimans (without disturbing them), was very friendly, patient, had a lot of experience and knowledge.

We could not have asked for more, it was perfect!
